QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
Question 1: Please confirm that the glass required in the doors, indicated as Glass Type
“A” on Architectural Drawing A108 shall consist of what is indicated as “Laminated
Glass” in specification paragraph 088000-2.1.A.
Answer 1: The Glass Type “A” shown on Architectural Drawing A108 is “Laminated
Glass” and the laminated glass specification is referenced by specification paragraph
088000-2.1.A. Specification paragraph 088000-2.1.A.5 is being added to the contract documents to clarify the Glass Type “A” requirements.
Question 2: Please indicate the type of etching required (acid etching or sandblasted) for the glass in Door 100B.
Answer 2: The contract drawing is amended to clarify the “seal requirements”.
Question 3: Transfer ducts all appear to be lined duct. Schedule calls for Industrial
Acoustic Company # Type C quiet vent silencers for TD-A,B,C and D by 48” long. If
TD’s are in fact just ductwork. Does each Transfer need to be 48” long? Or as shown on the drawings, which is plus/minus two feet?
Answer 3: The salient characteristics for the Sound Attenuators – TD-A, TD-B, TD-C, TD-D are described in the SOUND ATTENUATOR SCHEDULE listed on drawing
M01. The GSA will approve Sound Attenuators from other manufacturers that are not the basis of design if the sound attenuator submittal demonstrates that the salient characteristics are met. If the proposed sound attenuators for TD-A, TD-B, TD-C and
TD-D comply with all salient characteristics except length, the GSA will approve sound attenuators that have small length variations if the Engineer determines that the mechanical and electrical equipment layouts shown on the drawings are not affected the length variations of the sound attenuators. Note 2 on the SOUND ATTENUATOR
SCHEDULE indicates that TD-E and TD-F shall be constructed of 22 gage sheetmetal with 1” lining in accordance with requirements outlined by detail 1/M51.
Question 4: Existing floor tile is installed over a 3” mud set. Existing walls were framed on concrete floor. Removal of tile can cause extensive damage to mud set and there will be 4” +/- gap at existing wall framing. Are we to remove and reinstall new mud set or try and repair existing.?
Answer 4: Drawing Keyed Note 4 shown on drawing A100 will be revised under this amendment to require the Contractor to remove the +/- 3” cementitious substrate that is located beneath the ceramic tile floors that is specified to be removed.
Question 5: Armstrong does not make a Lino (linoleum) tile, they only produce sheet goods, Please advise if Forbo will be acceptable as equal for the tile?
Answer 5: Specification paragraph 096516-2.1.A.1 LINEOLEUM FLOORING indicates that “Forbo Flooring: Marmoleum” and “Armstrong Work Industries, Inc:
Marmorette” are acceptable linoleum flooring materials. The following web address provides additional information about the Armstrong “Marmorette” linoleum flooring -http://www.armstrong.com/commflooringna/products?Ntt=marmorette.
Question 6: The bid documents ask for two (2) colors of carpet; however they do not list the colors A and B. Please advise the intent here.
Answer 6: The Room Finish Schedule shown on drawing A108 indicates that CARPET
TYPE A – CARPET TILE and CARPET TYPE B – BROADLOAM CARPET will be furnished with Color 3A and Color 3B. Color 3A is the same color for both the CARPET
TILE and for the BROADLOAM CARPET. Similarly, Color 3B is to be the same color for both the CARPET TILE and for the BROADLOAM CARPET. The carpet tile, color and pattern specification is referenced by specification paragraph 096816-2.2.B.15 which reads: “Pattern and Color: Provide of match Posso, two custom colors, by Bentley Prince
Street.” The carpet and pattern specification for the broadloom carpet is referenced by specification paragraph 096816-2.3.15 which reads “Pattern and Color: Provide or match
Posso, two custom colors, by Bentley Prince Street.” The Contractor may submit carpets from a carpet manufacturer that is different than Bentley Prince Street but the Contractor must submit a carpet pattern that is similar to “Posso” and which has a wide variety of premium colors that are the same for both the carpet tile and the broadloom carpet. The contract document do not specifically identify the carpet colors but the contract documents allow the GSA to select colors from the wide variety of carpet colors that are specified by Bentley Prince Street for the “Posso” pattern. The U.S. Probation Office had advised the GSA that they intend to select a carpet that predominantly has blue tones.
Question 7: Toilet partitions are shown but not specified. Who is furnishing and installing these items?
Answer 7: The contract drawings require the Contractor to provide toilet partitions but
Specification Section 102113 – TOILET PARTITIONS is added to the contract by this amendment to clarify this material and construction requirements for this toilet partitions.
Question 8: The wet pipe sprinkler systems specification 211313-7 section 2.7 sprinklers, B-3b states “Fire safety during construction shall comply with the requirements of the international building code (IBC). International fire code (IFC) and national fire protection association (NFPA) 241 and shall include but not be limited to:
http://www.armstrong.com/commflooringna/products?Ntt=marmorette
b. Provide full coverage of upright heads in the work area to be light hazard density.
The FP demo drawings show the sprinkler system being removed from service within the work are and heat detectors being installed as interim life safety measures. Can we assume that upright heads will not be needed if the heat detectors are not installed?
Answer 8: The Contractor does not need to provide a temporary sprinkler system in the work site if the INTERIM LIFE SAFETY MEASURES described on the fire protection drawings are provided. Specification paragraph 211 313-2.7.B.3.b which requires the
Contractor to provide a temporary sprinkler system will be deleted by this amendment.
The Contractor is still required by drawing FD11 to maintain fire protection in the first floor SECURITY OFFICE during the entire construction period.
