About this file
This is an insurance requirements document for the City of Meriden, Connecticut, detailing the mandatory coverage and liability protections that contractors and vendors must maintain throughout contract performance. The City of Meriden requires contractors to secure General Liability coverage with minimum limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate, Auto Liability with $1,000,000 limits, and Workers' Compensation coverage at statutory limits. Additionally, contractors must obtain Umbrella or Excess Liability coverage to protect against catastrophic losses. All policies must be issued by carriers approved in Connecticut with a minimum AM Best's rating of "A-"VIII, and the City of Meriden must be named as an Additional Insured on a primary and non-contributory basis for all policies except Workers' Compensation. All policies are required to include a Waiver of Subrogation clause.
Original Certificates of Insurance must be submitted to the City of Meriden prior to contract issuance, with replacement or renewal certificates provided at least 30 days before policy expiration dates. If any policy is written on a "Claims Made" basis, coverage must be maintained for a minimum of two years following contract completion, and any policy cancellations, limit reductions, or coverage modifications require 30 days' written notice to the city. These insurance requirements apply to the Pulaski Gymnasium Floor Replacement project at Casimir Pulaski Elementary School, scheduled to commence on or after June 29, 2026, with completion required by August 7, 2026.
