About this file
This is an Insurance Requirements document for the City of Meriden, Connecticut, establishing minimum coverage mandates for contractors and vendors engaged in municipal contracts. The City of Meriden must be named as an Additional Insured on a primary and non-contributory basis for all policies except Workers' Compensation, and all policies must include a Waiver of Subrogation. Contractors are required to maintain General Liability coverage of $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 depending on the limit type, Auto Liability of $1,000,000, Umbrella/Excess Liability coverage with specified per-occurrence and aggregate limits, and Workers' Compensation with statutory limits and Employers' Liability coverage of $1,000,000 for each accident, each employee, and policy limit. Original completed Certificates of Insurance must be presented to the City of Meriden prior to contract issuance, with replacement or renewal certificates provided at least 30 days before policy expiration dates. Any policy cancellations, limit reductions, or coverage alterations require 30 days' written notice to the City.
All insurance policies must be written with carriers approved by the State of Connecticut maintaining a minimum AM Best's rating of "A-"VIII. Claims-Made policies require continuous renewal for a minimum of two years following contract completion, with expiring policies endorsed to extend the reporting period for claims for an additional two years from completion if the policy is replaced or the retroactive date is changed. These requirements apply to the architectural and design services contract for the Public Works Facility Addition at 55 Michael Drive, with proposals due October 23, 2025, and contract award anticipated for November 6, 2025.
