COMPOSITE GRAIN SIZE DISTRIBUTION CURVES FOR SAND SEDIMENTS AND
GRAIN SIZE SCALES FOR SEDIMENT
The grade scale most commonly used for sediments is the Wentworth (1922) scale which is a logarithmic scale in that each grade limit is twice as large as the next smaller grade limit. The scale starting at 1mm and changing by a fixed ratio of 2 was introduced by J.A. Udden (1898), who also named the sand grades we use today.
However, Udden drew the gravel/sand border at 1 mm and used different terms in the gravel and mud division. For more detailed work, sieves have bee constructed at intervals 2 ^(1/2) and 2^(1/14). The Φ (phi) scale, devised by Krumbein, is a much more convenient way of presenting data than if the values are expressed in millimeters, and is used almost entirely in recent work.

PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 CONTRACT COST BREAKDOWN
The Contractor must furnish within 30 days after the date of Notice to Proceed, and prior to the submission of its first partial payment estimate, a breakdown of its single job pay item or items which will be reviewed by the Contracting Officer as to propriety of distribution of the total cost to the various accounts. Any unbalanced items as between early and late payment items or other discrepancies will be revised by the Contracting Officer to agree with a reasonable cost of the work included in the various items. This Contract cost breakdown will then be utilized as the basis for progress payments to the Contractor.
1.2 CONTRACTOR'S INVOICE AND CONTRACT PERFORMANCE STATEMENT
1.2.1 Submission of Invoices
If DFARS Clause 252.232-7006 Wide Area WorkFlow Payment Instructions is included in the Contract, provide the documents listed in above paragraph CONTENT OF INVOICE in their entirety as attachments in Wide Area Work Flow (WAWF) for each invoice submitted. The maximum size of each WAWF attachment is two megabytes, but there are no limits on the number of attachments. If a document cannot be attached in WAWF due to system or size restriction, provide it as instructed by the Contracting Officer.
Monthly invoices and supporting forms for work performed through the anniversary award date of the Contract must be submitted to the Contracting Officer within 5 calendar days of the date of invoice. For example, if Contract award date is the 7th of the month, the date of each monthly invoice must be the 7th and the invoice must be submitted by the 12th of the month.
1.2.2 Final Invoice
a. A final invoice must be accompanied by the certification required by DFARS 252.247.7023 Transportation of Supplies by Sea, and the Contractor's Final Release. If the Contractor is incorporated, the Final Release must contain the corporate seal. An officer of the corporation must sign and the corporate secretary must certify the Final Release.
b. For final invoices being submitted via WAWF, the original Contractor's Final Release Form and required certification of Transportation of Supplies by Sea must be provided directly to the respective Contracting Officer prior to submission of the final invoice. Once receipt of the original Final Release Form and required certification of Transportation of Supplies by Sea has been confirmed by the Contracting Officer, the Contractor must then submit final invoice and attach a copy of the Final Release Form and required certification of Transportation of Supplies by Sea in WAWF.
c. Final invoices not accompanied by the Contractor's Final Release and

Mobilization must include all costs for operations accomplished prior to commencement of actual dredging operations, such as transfer of dredge and attendant plant and equipment to site, initial installations of pipe, preparation of beach fill areas, and other incidentals in advance of the actual dredging. Demobilization must include general preparation for transfer of plant to home base, removal of pipelines, cleanup of beach fill areas, and transfer of plant to its home base. The cost of work other than mobilization and demobilization of the Contractor's dredging plant and equipment must not be included in this item. For payment for Mobilization and Demobilization see Contract Clauses.
All costs connected with the mobilization and demobilization of all of the Contractor's dredging plant and equipment will be paid for at the contract lump sum price for this item. 60 percent of the lump sum price will be paid to the Contractor upon completion of his mobilization to the work site. The remaining forty percent 40 percent will be included in the final payment for work under this contract.
In the event the Contracting Officer and/or his Representative considers that the amount in this item 60 percent, which represents mobilization, does not bear a reasonable relation to the cost of the work in this contract, the Contracting Officer and/or his Representative may require the Contractor to justify this portion of the bid. Failure to justify such price to the satisfaction of the Contracting Officer and/or his Representative will result in payment of actual mobilization costs as determined by the Contracting Officer and/or his Representative, at the completion of mobilization and payment of the remainder of this item in the final payment under this contract. The determination of the Contracting Officer and/or his Representative is not subject to appeal.

(2) For the extent of the project as shown on the contract drawings, above +9.3 ft NAVD plus tolerance on the berm, and beyond the onshore slope of 1 on 20 slope line from El. +9.3 ft. NAVD plus tolerance intersects +3.9 ft. NAVD, and beyond the point where the 1 on 10 slope line plus tolerance intersects with the ocean bottom. Refer to the Compensated Slope paragraph in section 31 24 00.00 18 BEACH FILL PLACEMENT for exception regarding compensated slope.

Surveys will be taken on parallel profile lines (ranges) spaced at a maximum of 100-foot intervals. The minimum stationing interval will be 25 feet or at breaks in slope.
The Contractor must conduct the original and final surveys, with the presence of Government representatives, and make the computations based on them. The Contractor must conduct the surveys for any periods for which progress payments are requested and must make the computations based on these surveys. All surveys conducted by the Contractor must be done by a New Jersey licensed surveyor and certified hydrographer subjected to approval by the Contracting Officer.
