This service shall allow FBI employees the ability to search, retrieve, view, download, disseminate electronically and via DVD, and archive television and radio broadcast material.

2.1.2. Background

The role of the FBI's Office of Public Affairs (OPA) is to enhance and maintain public trust and confidence in the FBI by widely sharing information about the organization's mission, accomplishments, operations, and values. In its efforts to respond to media requests, strategically manage the FBI's external public communications, and better enable the dissemination of FBI public information during a major incident or crisis, OPA needs the ability to monitor and share breaking news, long-form television and radio journalism projects, and the larger public conversation about law enforcement, national security, international affairs and civil rights. An Internet-based news monitoring service will afford OPA this capability.

2.2 Scope or Objectives

The Office of Public Affairs seeks to provide its Public Affairs Specialists, Field Office media representatives and FBI executives with a web-based television and radio broadcast search and monitoring service, allowing personnel to have better situational awareness, better support both proactive and reactive public communications strategies, and better capture broadcast material that may be of value to investigative and/or operational matters.
