About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for Solicitation FA860125R0011, focusing on recycling tritium-containing items. The Q&A addresses potential contractors' inquiries about the scope of work, specifically seeking clarification on the types of items to be recycled. Typical units mentioned include compasses (Cammenga Model 3H and Sandy 183 at 120 mCi max), watches (Marathon Watch Company WW194003-SG at 30 mCi max), and varied gun sights. The government is seeking a contractor capable of providing broad-based recycling services for these items, with an emphasis on handling intact units and the potential to receive various models beyond those specifically listed.

The solicitation highlights that the Performance Work Statement (PWS) intentionally does not limit the scope to specific models, aiming to find a contractor flexible enough to handle different tritium-containing devices. The key requirement is the ability to recycle these units rather than dispose of them, with a focus on intact and non-damaged items. The document also indicates that contractors should be prepared to define terms like "contaminated" or "potentially leaking" to ensure accurate service provision.

Q&A #1

Would you happen to have more details on the items so we can give you an accurate quotation? We'd appreciate pictures and/or drawings of the items, trying to see what type of units they are, how they are assembled, and if they are made of plastic, metal, etc.

The scope of work is for intact units, not damaged units. If this does not suffice, contractor needs to define the terms contaminated or potentially leaking so we can better respond.

Below are typical units received:

- Compasses:

o Cammenga Model 3H @ 120 mCi max (original activity) o Sandy 183 @ 120 mCi but can vary (original activity)

- Watches:

o Marathon Watch Company P/N WW194003-SG @ 30 mCi max

- Gun Sights:

o Varied and not common

However, we do not provide this information in the PWS as there is potential to receive other models and we are looking for a contractor who can provide the broad base services so all such units can be recycled vs disposed of.
