About this file
This document is a Questions & Answers (Q&A) file for Solicitation FA860125Q0153 issued by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, relating to a SIPR Door Replacement in Building 558, Room 216. The Q&A addresses critical technical specifications for the door replacement, including precise dimensional requirements (85 1/2" x 37 5/8" x 4 1/2"), sound transmission class (STC) rating of 55, and door swing direction (into the room). Vendors were advised about potential long lead times (potentially exceeding 12 weeks) due to high demand for secure facility doors, and were informed that quotes with extended lead times would still be accepted. The document highlights technical complexities such as panel thickness, egress code compliance, and the potential need for reframing or enlarging door openings to meet the specified STC 55 standards.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
QUESTION: Can the government please define the existing door panel size? Existing rough opening size, if known? Existing partition thickness?
ANSWER: Standard STC 55 dimensions, 85 1/2” x 37 5/8” x 4 1/2”
QUESTION: Due to demand from SCIF and secure room facilities, the demand for any type of customized STC 50 or higher door is very high and will be especially high at the end of the government’s fiscal year. Lead times are likely to be in excess of 12 weeks and that does not include any survey, shipping, or installation work.
ANSWER: Quotes may still be submitted with longer lead times
QUESTION: The government is requesting an STC 55 door for this installation. A true STC 55 door is going to have a panel thickness of 3”. Any vendor offering a thinner panel is not likely testing to the ASTM standard. Because of the increased panel thickness, a standard 3’ wide x 7’ high door panel will not be code compliant for egress (the finish opening, when the door is help open at 90 degrees, will be less than 32” wide measured from the face of the door to the opposite sound seal / stop) . The door panel will need to be 38” wide or wider. The extra width will often drive the requirement to reframe a standard framed partition rough opening or enlarge a masonry rough opening, which can add significantly to installation cost. This is why it’s important to understand the existing rough opening or door panel size (we can estimate the rough opening from the door panel size).
ANSWER: See measured dimensions to first answer.
