DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE OHIO

14 September 2018

FROM: AFLCMC/PZIBC (Hannah Wood) 1940 Allbrook Drive, Room 109 Wright-Patterson AFB, OH 45433

SUBJECT: Response to Inquiries regarding FA8601-18-Q-0238 MT65 and 45 Microwave Absorber

QUESTIONS

1. The SOW for AFIT requires both polystyrene Microwave Absorber model MT65 and MT45 manufactured by Comtest Engineering. Can the user identify the areas when each size RF absorber is to be used MT45 and MT65?

Location Size

1. Transmit End Wall MT45 or MT65

2. Receive End Wall MT45 or MT65

3. Side Walls MT45 or MT65

4. Ceiling MT45 or MT65

5. Floor MT45 or MT65

2. Polystyrene Microwave Absorber Model MT65 and 45 may not be the best models to meet SOW performance specification. Is a design using ALL MT45-JT an acceptable alternate (see cut sheet)?

3. ECT45 white foam caps negatively affect the RF absorber performance and are not recommended. If the "Hallway area" is located within an indirect RF illumination area the affects may have less impact. Can you identify the "hallway area" and coverage area in surface square feet.

ANSWERS

1. The choice is up to the vendor as long as they meet the required return loss specifications provided in the salient characteristics. I would suggest MT65 on the back wall.

2. This is a brand name acquisition, only the MT 65 and MT 45 models are acceptable.

3. The "hallway" area is 256 square feet. Please see the SOW - Updated - 14 September 2018, and the photo below for reference.
