RESPONSES TO CONTRACTOR QUESTIONS

3/3/10

- Is all pipe to be a minimum of schedule 40 ( this has been a base minimum)? The specifications would allow less as currently written.

FOLLOW THE SPECIFICATIONS. SPECIFICATION SECTION 21 13 13.00 10 PARAGRAPH 2.5.1.1 FOR ABOVEGROUND PIPING.

- Is Seismic restraints required?

NO.

- Is an Alarm valve required in the riser? (not shown on plans but is usual required)

YES, PER SPECIFICATIONS.

- Is a full size(size of backflow preventer) test connection located on the exterior of the building required for testing the backflow preventer? (not shown on plans but is usual required)

NOT SURE WHAT YOU ARE ASKING HERE. WPAFB DOES NOT HAVE TEST CONNECTIONS FOR BACKFLOW PREVENTERS ON THE EXTERIOR OF BUILDINGS. SO THE ANSWER IS NO.

- Who is responsible for installing conduit and wiring between the exterior post indicator, riser flow switch and the fire alarm panel?

THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR. REFER TO FIRE PROTECTION NOTE #23 SHT. FP-2.

- If we are required to do this where is the fire alarm panel?

WILL HAVE TO COORDINATE WITH APM (CONTRACTOR PROVIDING THE F.A.P.). REFER TO FIRE PROTECTION NOTE #3 SHT. FP-2, AND SPECIFICATION SECTION 01 01 00 PARAGRAPH 1.06.

- Are we required to paint all exposed piping?

YES. REFER TO FIRE PROTECTION NOTE #12 SHT. FP-2.

-The design area is 3000 sq ft, the area can only be reduced if "approved by a base fire protection engineer". Has design area reduction been approved for this project per UFC 3-600-01, 4-2.3.3.3?

UFC 3-600-01 AND NFPA 13 PART 11.2.3.2.3.1 ALLOWS AREA REDUCTION IN THE CALCULATIONS WHEN USING QUICK RESPONSE SPRINKLER HEADS.

- The drawings do not show an FDC connection. Please advise.

FIRE PROTECTION NOTE #17 SHT. FP-2 REQUIRES THE FDC. THIS WILL BE SHOWN ON THE SPRINKLER PIPING DRAWINGS PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR, ACCORDING TO FIRE PROTECTION NOTES #'S 1 & 2, AND THE SPECIFICATIONS.

- The fire alarm system/panel and all wiring provided by others?

THE F.A.P. IS BEING PROVIDED BY APM. THE SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONNECTING THE DEVICES HE IS PROVIDING TO THIS PANEL. REFER TO FIRE PROTECTION NOTE #23 SHT. FP-2 AND SPECIFICATION SECTION 01 01 00 PARAGRAPH 1.06.

- Drawings indicate that exposed piping to be painted? By sprinkler contractor? If so, what color?

YES. REFER TO FIRE PROTECTION NOTE #12 SHT. FP-2 AND SPECIFICATION SECTION 09 90 00. COLOR IS RED.

- What is the manufacturer and model of the FACP (Fire Panel) being installed under the current renovation?

DO NOT KNOW. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH APM PER FIRE PROTECTION NOTE #3 SHT. FP-2 AND SPECIFICATION SECTION 01 01 00 PARAGRAPH 1.06 FOR THIS INFORMATION.
