About this file
This document is a set of vendor questions and responses for Solicitation FA857125Q0083 for an Industrial Oven, specifically designed to bake life rafts before packing. The oven requirements include interior dimensions of 7' x 7' x 6', a maximum temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and an operating temperature of 130 degrees. The primary purpose is to make life rafts more malleable for packing, with each batch containing approximately 200 pounds of urethane-coated nylon life rafts on wooden dollies.
Key specifications include accommodating two 6' x 3' x 4' wooden dollies weighing roughly 100 pounds each, a Dickson KT8-40 chart recorder, and a single setpoint temperature controller. The vendor must ensure the oven can be delivered through a 9'-9" wide, 10' tall rollup door, with the ability to disassemble and reassemble on-site if necessary. Payment terms are strict, with the government specifying payment will be made through a singular invoice upon delivered supply, rejecting any proposed down payments or progress payments. The solicitation is issued by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center, with quotes due by 1:00 PM EST on 19 May 2025.

Industrial Oven
Vendor Questions
• Can you please find out the dimensions of the largest workload item being tested and the weight of the same? I will need the dimensions and weight to properly specify the strength of the chamber floor.
6’ x 3’x 4’ Wooden Dolly with life raft contained inside
Chamber floor needs to be able to handle 2 of these
Roughly 100lbs per dolly
• What is the process the oven is being used for? (for example…curing paint on steel, drying water from aluminum, etc.)
o What are the parts? (for example, large steel structure, small aluminum engines, etc.)
o What is the part material?
o What is the maximum weight of parts in the oven during a single batch?
o How is the oven being loaded? How will the parts be sitting in the oven?
o Are there any volatiles or solvents in the oven? If so, we need to know the maximum amount during a single batch. (This piece of info is critical to know and understand)
The oven will be used to bake life rafts before packing them. The life rafts are packed very tightly. Baking them beforehand makes them more malleable and easier to pack without damaging the raft. Life Rafts are made out of urethane coated Nylon.
200lbs max weight roughly
Parts are wheeled in on dollies and remain in the dollies while inside the oven.
Volatiles or Solvents: Just the urethane coated nylon material the life rafts are made of.
• Can you please let me know the size and weight of the largest item that will be tested in the chamber? Our sub vendor needs to know this information to properly specify the floor strength. Can you please provide the test article dimension and weight?
6’ x 3’ x 4’ and 100lbs. Need to fit two of these in the oven at one time.
• Can you please confirm whether any volatiles, solvents, or combustible materials will be present in the oven during operation?
Life Rafts are made of a urethane coated nylon. I believe urethane would be considered volatile
• Is the 1200F oven chamber meant to be AMS 2750H Class 1 (+/- 5F) or is it meant to be
Class 2 (+/- 10F)?
o 1.1.3 (in P.D.) states it is to be Class 1 whereas 1.4.1 states +/-10F which is Class o Can the furnace be on top and the oven on the bottom?
o 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 (in P.D.) state furnace on bottom and oven on the top. That is the opposite of what is typically and how we make dual chamber furnaces.
We don’t need a high temperature furnace. The oven we need should be large with 7’ x 7’ x 6’ interior dimensions with a max temperature of 200 degrees Farenheit and operating temperature of 130 degrees. 1200F is way over what we need.
This oven will be custom designed and our payment terms require a down payment and progress payments, will this be acceptable? Also clarify below:
No this is not acceptable, payment is made through a singular invoice for the delivered supply – not a payment made in advance of any acceptance by the government.
2. How much material in lbs will be placed in the oven per batch and how many batches per hour or hours per batch.
200lbs max weight roughly
3. Is the material aluminum or steel or ? and what is the percentage of each per batch
No aluminum or steel. Just a wood dolly and nylon life raft.
Neither, Life Rafts are made of a urethane coated nylon.
4. What is the purchase of the oven, heating or are there coatings being placed in the oven and if so are the water based or solvent based.
and if so, what are percentage of solids worst case and what is the volume or lbs of coating per batch
6’ x 3’x 4’ Wooden Dolly with life raft contained inside Chamber floor needs to be able to handle 2 of these Roughly 100lbs per dolly
5. What is the min and max ambient temp of the facility the oven will be placed and operated in
Max: 75 degrees; Min: 65 degrees
6. What is the overall space available for the oven
No space constraints inside facility. Just need to be able to fit through the rollup door.
7. How are the parts place in the oven on a cart or ?
Parts are wheeled in on dollies and remain in the dollies while inside the oven.
8. Oven will be built complete and tested prior to shipment and then split for shipment for reassembly on site by customer as they are performing the installation as necessary. Please confirm.
If the oven can’t fit through the roll up doors (9’-9” wide, 10’ tall), the vendor will be responsible for bringing the oven into the facility in piece parts and assembling inside. Add costs to solicitation if necessary for this. The customer will handle final connection to power and setting in place.
9. Please specify the type of chart recorder desired and/or the number of channels required.
Dickson Chart Recorder: KT8-40
10. Single setpoint temp controller or programmable temp controller is required?
Single set point.
