Statement of Work
388th MXG – Rag Cleaning Service BPA
1.0 SCOPE:
A professional rag and linen service is a fundamental requirement for any maintenance operation, directly impacting safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Maintenance activities inherently generate large quantities of rags soaked with oil, solvents, and other hazardous materials, which pose a significant fire risk due to spontaneous combustion and require specialized handling as hazardous waste. A managed service removes this burden by providing a constant supply of clean, appropriate rags while ensuring the soiled linens are laundered and disposed of in accordance with environmental and safety standards, such as those from the EPA and OSHA. This allows maintenance personnel to focus on their core duties without compromising workplace safety or productivity, making the service an essential component of a safe and efficient operation rather than mere convenience.
2.0 BACKGROUND:
Our unit has relied on professional rag services in the past, and we are now moving to formalize this arrangement through a dedicated contract. This transition from previous procurement methods will guarantee a consistent supply of materials that are essential for our maintenance operations and ensure all services are delivered in full compliance with government regulations.
3.0 GENERAL INFORMATION:
The rags requested under this contract are a multi-purpose and essential consumable for daily maintenance operations. Their primary use is for wiping down tools, machinery, and aircraft components to remove oil, grease, hydraulic fluid, and other contaminants. They are also critical for cleaning up spills to prevent slip hazards, applying solvents and cleaning agents, and preparing surfaces for inspection, repair, or painting. In short, they are a fundamental tool for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of our maintenance work centers and equipment.
4.0 SPECIFICATIONS / REQUIRMENTS:
The laundry process must effectively remove all contaminants, including oils, chemicals, and other hazardous materials. The service should operate on a consistent schedule, picking up soiled rags and delivering a fresh supply in a timely manner. The schedule should be flexible enough to accommodate the needs of the unit.
