About this file
This document appears to be a request for information (RFI) related to a federal contract opportunity for the KC-135 Commercial Satellite Communication Access to Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router (NIPR) and Secure Internet Protocol Router (SIPR) Networks (CANS) program. The RFI provides responses to industry questions regarding the planned CANS upgrade to the KC-135 aircraft fleet.
The key details from the document and related contract opportunity summary are:
- The CANS upgrade aims to provide seamless and resilient communications and adaptable data pathways for the KC-135 fleet, including real-time Ku-band commercial satellite communications capabilities.
- The system should enable applications such as increased aircraft situational awareness, improved mission planning, aeromedical communications, and weather/airfield updates.
- The government is conducting market research to identify potential sources with the expertise and capabilities to provide internet access solutions and integrate the CANS upgrade into the current KC-135 platform with the Real-Time Information in the Cockpit (RTIC) communications system.
- The contract opportunity indicates 326 C/KC-135 aircraft will receive the CANS upgrade, with projected fielding in FY25 through FY28.
- The government is currently in the early market research phase and may issue additional RFIs. Specific acquisition timelines, contract type, and evaluation criteria have not yet been determined.
