About this file

This document contains details regarding an upcoming federal contract opportunity for the KC-135 Commercial Access to NIPR/SIPR (CANS) program. The KC-135 program office seeks to develop a commercial satellite communications solution to provide high-speed, reliable internet access to crewmembers via SATCOM channels. The solution would employ a Ku-band commercial satellite antenna and associated hardware and software components to allow beyond line-of-sight connectivity. Potential applications include increased situational awareness, improved mission planning and communications for aeromedical evacuations. The system is intended to integrate with the KC-135's existing RTIC communications system and meet various Air Force requirements. There are 326 KC-135 aircraft that will receive the CANS upgrade between fiscal years 2025 through 2028. The industry day flyer provides agenda details and points of contact for a related April 2024 event, where the program office will engage industry to identify potential solutions and partners to design, produce, and field the CANS capability.
