About this file

This document is a specification for construction/maintenance/repair work at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, 910th Airlift Wing, identified as federal contract ZQEL 22-0006.

The specification covers multiple trade sections including metal suspension systems (Section 09 22 26), gypsum board (Section 09 29 00), acoustical panel ceilings (Section 09 51 13), roll-down blinds (Section 11 21 23), diffusers/registers/grilles (Section 23 37 13), and basic electrical materials and methods (Sections 26 05 00 and 26 05 29). For metal suspension systems, contractors must provide hot-dipped galvanized main beams and cross tees complying with ASTM standards, with a ten-year manufacturer warranty against red rust. Acceptable manufacturers include Armstrong World Industries, USG Corp, and CertainTeed Corp. Gypsum board installation requires interior panels and tile backing panels with specified joint treatment materials and trim accessories. Acoustical panel ceilings must be Type III mineral-based panels in white, 3/4-inch thickness, 24-by-24-inch modular size, from manufacturers such as Armstrong, CertainTeed, Chicago Metallic, or USG, installed per ASTM C 636/C 636M standards with a 25-percent minimum recycled content requirement for suspension systems and proper hanger spacing not exceeding 48 inches on center.

Roll-down blinds specifications require manually operated chain-drive sunscreen and room-darkening roller shades with environmentally certified TPO shadecloth and welded hem pockets, utilizing stainless steel chain rated to 90-pound breaking strength and oil-impregnated permanently lubricated brake assemblies. Diffusers, registers, and grilles must be equivalent to Titus models (OMNI for ceiling diffusers, 300FS for supply grilles, 350FL for return/exhaust grilles) installed level and plumb. Electrical work requires EMT, FMC, and rigid galvanized steel conduit, stranded copper conductors with thermoplastic insulation rated 75 degrees Celsius minimum, and support systems complying with NECA 1 and NECA 101 standards. All materials must be delivered in original unopened packages and stored in fully enclosed, conditioned spaces. Field conditions require coordination with HVAC and electrical sections, and all work must comply with OSHA, NFPA, and NEMA standards.

L. Install sleeves for cable and raceway penetrations of concrete slabs and walls unless core-drilled holes are used. Install sleeves for cable and raceway penetrations of masonry and fire-resistance-rated gypsum walls and of all other fire-resistance-rated floor and wall assemblies. Install sleeves during erection of concrete and masonry walls.

M. Securely fasten electrical items and their supports to the building structure, unless otherwise indicated. Perform fastening according to the following unless other fastening methods are indicated:

1. Wood: Fasten with wood screws or screw-type nails.

2. Masonry: Toggle bolts on hollow masonry units and expansion bolts on solid masonry units.

3. Existing Concrete: Expansion bolts.

4. Instead of expansion bolts, threaded studs driven by a powder charge and provided with lock washers may be used in existing concrete.

5. Steel: Welded threaded studs or spring-tension clamps on steel.

a. Field Welding: Comply with AWS D1.1.

6. Welding to steel structure may be used only for threaded studs, not for conduits, pipe straps, or other items.

7. Light Steel: Sheet metal screws.

8. Fasteners: Select so the load applied to each fastener does not exceed 25 percent of its proof-test load.

H. Install warning, caution, and instruction signs where required to comply with 29 CFR, Chapter XVII, Part 1910.145, and where needed to ensure safe operation and maintenance of electrical systems and of items to which they connect. Install engraved plastic-laminated instruction signs with approved legend where instructions are needed for system or equipment operation. Install metal-backed butyrate signs for outdoor items.

J. Install engraved-laminated emergency-operating signs with white letters on red background with minimum 3/8-inch (9-mm) high lettering for emergency instructions on power transfer, load shedding, and other emergency operations.

3.09 FIRESTOPPING

A. Apply firestopping to cable and raceway penetrations of fire-resistance-rated floor and wall assemblies to achieve fire-resistance rating of the assembly. Firestopping materials and installation requirements are specified in Division 7 Section "Firestopping."

3.10 DEMOLITION

A. Protect existing electrical equipment and installations indicated to remain. If damaged or disturbed in the course of the Work, remove damaged portions and install new products of equal capacity, quality, and functionality.
