James Street Gate Improvements Project RFI Responses:

Questions Issued 5/15/2014

1. Regarding pavement sub-base: Detail 10 C502 indicates that the lower layer of bearing soil is to be a minimum of 28” of sand meeting a specific sieve analysis/result. Please confirm that the offeror is to assume that this material is the naturally occurring in place soil that will be built upon for the new road house.

After further review, the typical pavement section has been amended and shall consist of the following:

-1.5” Bituminous Concrete Surface Course -Tack coat -2.0” Bituminous Concrete Binder -6” Granular Base Course (Dense graded Crushed Stone) -12” Granular Sub Base -Existing Soil (Compacted and Proof Rolled)

2. Is a geotechnical survey available for the project? One is referenced on drawing S-001, Foundation Note #1, but it doesn’t seem to be included in the specifications or on the drawings.

Generally, the geotechnical reports are not given out until after the project is awarded. The bidding is to be based on the given design.

3. Drawing E-102 and E-104: Details for nine way, four way and two way duct banks are indicated, however, there doesn’t appear to be any legend indicators identifying what utility piping is to receive concrete encasement. Please clarify the locations of concrete encased duct banks.

All Communication Duct Banks are to be encased in concrete.

Question Issued 5/20/2014

1. Looking over the documents I noticed on M-501 under the Controls Narrative that a manual shut down switch is to be install on all BAS controlled Equipment. Is there any Building Automation Systems work on this job that will be connected to the Westover network system?

There is no Building Automation Systems work in this contract. The manual shutdown switch is unnecessary for this building and the note should be removed.
