About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation for Camp Sparta Access Roads. The solicitation is for road construction services at Camp Sparta and seeks clarification on road specifications such as lane widths, drainage requirements, asphalt layer thickness, and whether light poles need to be relocated. The work will involve constructing a 24-foot wide two-lane road with approximately 12-foot lanes and installing drainage features. Pavement thickness and asphalt layering will be determined by final design but no less than 7.5 centimeters in two lifts. Light poles must remain operational after construction. The solicitation was issued by the Department of the Air Force Air Combat Command for project FA570323R0004.

Questions and Answers Part II dated: 11 Sep 23

Project Title: Camp Sparta Access Roads
From checking the conceptual drawings and the approximate quantities mentioned, we assume that the road section will be 4 lanes 2 for each side. Please confirm and please provide the width of each lane required.
1 lane for each way. Guarantee 2 way traffic. Centerline marking can be decided during 100% design development. Light poles need to be at the center of the roadway. Roadway is 24 feet wide.
Approximately 12 feet each lane.
For drainage works, We witnessed at site visit in the main road a swale from one side only. Is it required to create a swale at the other side to follow the typical section. And If not, is there any adjustments required to be done for the existing drainage swale ? Please reference plans, SOW and specifications.
During the Site visit Light poles were found in the middle of the path of the main road. Please clarify whether they are required to be relocated or to be kept in place.
Light poles need to remain functional post construction. Light poles should be positioned at the center of the roadway.
For the 10cm asphalt base course layer. Please clarify whether it will be applied one time as layer of 10cm or it is required to be applied two layer 5cm each.
Pavement lift thickness is dependent on final pavement design. If a smaller aggregate is specified in surface course, then the pavement thickness should be smaller. If aggregate sizes are the same, then two lifts at 7.5cm will suffice.
Please clarify if the base course layer is required to be 15cm thickness fixed all the way or should it be variable depending on the slope of the road at each section. Please see plans, specifications, and SOW.
