c) Kindly provide plan showing the location of these in the project.

Answer: CE will provide drawings and dimensions for the taxiway painted lines and work area.

d) Kindly specify how many core drilled samples are required and up to what depth?

Answer: The contractor will perform three core samples per day during paving operations. These core samples are to be performed on the newly paved asphalt to verify compaction and quality of asphalt. The contract calls out new asphalt to be 2 inches (51 mm) thick. Core samples shall be a depth of 3 inches (76.2 mm). Contractor will place hot asphalt in cored holes and compact accordingly. Frequency of core samples shall be completed every 2-3 hours during paving.

e) How many days shall we consider in the every milestones inspection?

Answer: The contractor should plan on a total of 6 days for inspection (inspection will not take all day). One day inspection for each of the following (1. Demolition, Milling and Sub base repair, 2. Tack Coat Application, 3. Asphalt Pavement, 4. Taxiway Marking, 5. Pre-Final Inspection, 6. Final Inspection)

2. During the initial contractor site visit performed on 7 Jan 2013, it was observed that there were portions of the taxiway that had geotextile fabric beneath the asphalt. There are three to four areas identified that have geotextile material. There may be up to 10 areas of geotextile material. These sections are 1’ x 10’ and the contractor is to saw cut out these sections and mill the rest of the taxiway and dispose of on base.
