APPENDIX 4
INCIRLIK AB OUTDOOR RECREATION POOL
EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN
As a contracted lifeguard (hereafter referred to as lifeguard) that works at the pool, an essential part of your skill base must be the ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations at your level and ability of training. All contracted lifeguards are required to maintain current certifications in CPR, Basic First Aid and a current Lifeguard certification. This manual will help to acquaint you with the general procedures used within each department, and some site-specific details. You must become familiar with response methods to the different emergencies outlined in the manual, and be prepared to implement them in a calm and professional manner.
As contracted lifeguard at the pool you must know where the following items are located:
emergency phone numbers list, all exits, evacuation assembly location, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, first aid kits, flash lights, electrical panels, water system shut-off valves, and key.
Risk management, safety awareness and emergency response ability are fundamental parts of your job as contracted lifeguard. While on duty, you are asked to be alert to potential hazards from equipment, activities, and human behavior. You should be quick to respond to problems whenever they may arise. You play a key role in protecting the safety of Outdoor Recreations (O.D.R.) patrons, staff, and facilities.
In the event of an emergency situation, to alert the Pool Manager and other contracted lifeguards give one long blast of your whistle, whistle blast should last 3-6 seconds. Once a lifeguard has signaled an emergency, that lifeguard must be replaced by another lifeguard so all stations continue to be covered. The long whistle blast will only be used when help is needed in the event of an injury or life-threatening situation.
When an emergency is sounded, either a lifeguard or the Pool Manager must go to the lifeguard locker room ASAP and be prepared to call 911 and assist lifeguards in any capacity that is needed. If the lifeguard should need to leave the pool area to assist with emergency care in another part of the facility, the pool shall be closed and no one will be able to enter the pool during the absence of the lifeguard.
Hazardous Material Spills (chlorine, acid, gasoline, etc.)
1. First clear the area.
2. Contact your immediate supervisor.
3. Call 911 (Fire Department).
4. Keep area clear, wait for further instructions.

Fire Emergency Procedures In the event of a fire, a safe and speedy response is of the utmost importance. All lifeguards and O.D.R. staff need to be prepared for any and all emergencies. Please follow these guidelines in the event of a fire:
1. Call 911. Give them your name, the facility name, the address, and state the problem. If the Pool Manager is on shift they must be notified of the situation immediately.
