About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for Combined Synopsis/Solicitation FA568226Q8018, issued by the U.S. Air Force on July 15, 2026. The solicitation concerns the supply, delivery, installation, and removal of 102 sets of dormitory furniture at Building 1427.

The clarifications address material composition, product specifications, and removal responsibilities. The Government requires solid hardwood construction exclusively; commercial-grade engineered wood with melamine finishes is not acceptable, and particleboard, MDF, fiberboard, and hardboard are prohibited. The under-bed storage unit specification refers to one unit with four drawers and four low-profile wheels. Regarding dimensional tolerances, the Government indicated that minor variations from listed dimensions may be evaluated case-by-case, depending on the extent and nature of the differences and whether functionality remains consistent with specifications. However, for the fireproof mattress, listed dimensions are mandatory. The two-position upholstered chair must be a fixed chair with sled-like legs allowing two position settings while maintaining full stability, rather than an adjustable chair. The selected vendor bears full responsibility for removing and transporting all dismantled furniture off-site for disposal; the Government will not provide on-site storage for removed items.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Combined Synopsis/Solicitation FA568226Q8018 -

Supply, Delivery, Installation, and Removal of 102 sets of Dormitory Furniture at Building 1427

15 July 2026

Q 17: The Technical Specifications require solid hardwood construction and also state that particleboard, MDF, fiberboard, and hardboard shall not be used.

Could you please confirm whether commercial-grade engineered wood furniture with high-quality melamine finishes would be considered acceptable, or whether solid hardwood construction is strictly required?

A 17: We require solid hardwood construction, as per the Technical Specifications.

Q18: The specification describes a "Solid Hard Wood Four Drawer Under Bed Storage Unit with 4 low profile wheels."

Could you please clarify whether this refers to one under-bed storage unit containing four drawers?

A18: Yes, this refers to one under-bed storage unit containing four drawers.

Q19: If commercially available products differ slightly from the listed dimensions, are reasonable manufacturing tolerances acceptable provided that the functionality and overall design remain consistent with the specification?

A19: That would depend on how much and in what ways the proposed products differs from the listed dimensions, and would have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Q20: The specification refers to a two-position upholstered chair.

Could you please confirm whether the Government requires an adjustable chair, or whether a fixed upholstered chair would be acceptable?

A20: We are requesting a fixed upholstered chair that can be set in two positions (e.g. sled-like legs that would allow the chair to be reclined back while still maintaining full stability).

Q21: The specification requires a fireproof mattress with specific dimensions.

Would a commercially available fire-retardant mattress with equivalent fire-performance certification be acceptable if it differs slightly from the specified dimensions, or are the listed dimensions mandatory?

A21: The listed dimensions are mandatory.

Q22: Should the dismantled furniture be transported off-site for disposal, or will the Government designate a nearby storage area for the removed furniture?

We would appreciate your guidance as the proposal due date is approaching.

A22: The dismantled furniture will have to be removed and transported off site for disposal by the selected vendor. The selected vendor will be fully responsible for this disposal.
