Furniture for Dorms – Site Visit notes
The following points were covered and outlined during the site visit conducted on 21 August 2021:
1. Chair Material Specification: It was affirmed that fireproof material is not mandatory. However, in correspondence dated 21 August 2023, the Mission Partner stipulated that chairs should to be fabricated using "vinyl" material.
2. Wood Material and Color: The matter of wood material and color for the furniture was reiterated.
The requirement remains that only solid wood material is acceptable. Materials such as plywood do not meet the solicitation criteria. The designated color for the furniture is to be of a neutral type (e.g., brown, black, etc.). Specifications concerning the thickness of furniture lamination are not prescribed, and no certifications are mandated pertaining to the lamination material.
3. CLIN0005 - SOLID HARD WOOD ONE DRAWER DESK W/FULL-WIDTH DRAWER: It is required that the desk feature a frontal drawer, and the material is to be limited to solid wood. Alternative materials, including plastic, are not acceptable.
4. Furniture Delivery Logistics: The designated area for furniture loading and unloading can be at the front of Building 1422. It is permissible for delivery trucks to access the building entrance and elevators can be used by the contract.
The dormitory rooms designated to receive the furniture are currently occupied. As a result, it has been established that the contractor is obligated to furnish the Mission Partner with a prior notice, approximately one week prior to the designated delivery date or earlier.
5. Disposal of Old Furniture: All previous furniture items are to be delivered in fully assembled condition to the DLA building situated at Area F of Aviano Air Base. The procedure for furniture transportation necessitates the scheduling of a turn-in in coordination with DLA personnel.
