PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION OF PIPE
Pipes shall be placed at the depth and gradients indicated on the design drawings and approved by the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative, following verification of the perfect condition of the pipes and the related joints. No gradient and reverse gradients less than the design ones shall be allowed: should such gradients be found, the Contractor shall remove and reconstruct the work at his own expense.

Excavation shall be in accordance with Section 02315, "Excavation and Fill".
The Contractor shall remove and replace at his own expense, all pieces which are defective, damaged or in any case do not guarantee the perfect outcome of the work. All pipes placed in transitable or parking areas or in areas otherwise subject to vehicle traffic, in the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative’s opinion, and placed at a depth of less than 60 cm (measured from the finished surface to the upper surface of the pipe) shall be buried in and protected by a layer of concrete of suitable thickness. The connection to manholes and other appurtenances shall be carried out in workmanlike fashion, paying attention to the position and the perfect sealing.
3.1.2 Warning Tape and Bare Copper Tracer Wire
As specified in Section 02315, "Excavation and Fill".
3.2 CONNECTIONS TO EXISTING LINES
Connections to existing lines shall be made in a manner approved by the Contracting Officer.

The pipe shall be cut or broken neatly so that the pipe ends will be approximately flush with the interior face of structure walls, but not protruding beyond such face into the structure. The pipe to wall connection shall be mortared smoothly to produce smooth transitions and watertight connections. The Contracting Officer shall be notified in writing at least ten days prior to the date the connection is made.
3.3 MANHOLE, AND CATCH BASIN CONSTRUCTION
Construct base slab of cast-in-place concrete or precast concrete base sections. Make inverts in bases with a smooth surfaced semi-circular bottom conforming to the inside contour of the adjacent sewer sections. For changes in direction of the sewer and entering branches into the manhole, make a circular curve in the manhole invert of as large a radius as manhole size will permit. For cast-in-place concrete construction, either pour bottom slabs and walls integrally or key and bond walls to bottom slab. For precast concrete construction, make joints between manhole sections with the gaskets specified for this purpose. Cast-in-place concrete work shall be in accordance with the requirements specified under paragraph entitled "Concrete" of this section.
3.4 FIELD INSPECTIONS AND TESTS
3.4.1 General
Perform field tests and provide labor, equipment, and incidental required for testing.
3.4.2 Pipeline Testing
Each straight run of pipeline shall be checked for gross deficiencies by holding a light in a manhole; it shall show a practically full circle of light through the pipeline when viewed from the adjoining end of the line.
