About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for a clinical laboratory work benches procurement at RAF Lakenheath, containing 10 contractor questions and government responses regarding technical specifications and requirements. The document clarifies that no height-adjustable section is required, epoxy resin is specified for sink material, position 8 requires a fixed bench capable of supporting approximately 140 kg, and HPL-based material (High-Pressure Laminate) such as Trespa® or Toplab® is required instead of MFMDF.

The document resolves a discrepancy regarding quantity, confirming 9 bench areas are required rather than 12 as originally stated. It specifies that bidders must provide design layouts meeting safety standards for materials, walk path spacing, and ergonomics (bench height, knee/foot clearances). The document provides a link to HTM 67 guidelines for laboratory design specifications and references floor plan attachments for detailed dimensions and drawer positioning, though these attachments are not included in the provided file.

Clinical Lab Work Benches Questions

1. Is there any requirement for a height-adjustable section in the lab? Typically used for wheelchair access. If so, is there a preferred location? - No.

2. Can we please get clearer images (or CAD drawings) of the model? This is to check the quantity and positioning of drawers. -See Floor Plan Attachment.

3. Can we please have a clearer image or CAD drawing for the birds eye view plan? This is to scale off the drawings. -See Floor Plan Attachment.

4. Sink specification - in a medical environment 316-grade stainless steel is often specified but equally resin sinks may be sufficient. - Sink Material: Epoxy resin

1. If this is unknown, please could we have a list of corrosive and staining chemicals in use in order to specify the correct product under the 'HTM-67' guidelines. -See above

5. Please can the weight of the equipment to be used on 'position 8' be confirmed? This is to correctly specify the metal bench, ensuring weight capacity. - Approx 140 Kg (309 lbs)

6. Is position 8 to be a fixed bench or a mobile bench on castors? I noticed this is currently a mobile bench while on site. -Fixed

7. In a commercial environment, the use of MFMDF carcass is advised rather than MFC.

Can we please confirm that MFMDF is the intended spec? MFMDF provides longevity and is the higher spec material, the lab furniture will last longer in MFMDF. – HPL Based Material (High-Pressure Laminate) such as Trespa® or Toplab®.

8. Attachment-1 Statement of Work, Section 1.3 Scope states: “Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for the workbenches, including dimensions, materials, and finishes that comply with industry standards, including ergonomic guidelines and safety regulations.” However, we could not locate any design requirements, specifications, or required design steps in the provided documents.

Could you please provide the design requirements, including:

- Whether a Designer of Record is required

- The required design steps (e.g., 65%, 90%, 100%)

- Timelines for design reviews and approvals

- Any permits required (if applicable)?

- You need to provide a design for your layout when submitting your quote. Should meet safety standards such as material used, walk path spacing and general ergonomics like bench height, knee and foot clearances, material used for ease of cleaning.

Clinical Lab Work Benches Questions

9. Attachment-1 Statement of Work, Section 3.3 under Product Specifications & Delivery Requirements includes a link to HTM 67. However, we were unable to access the document via this link, despite registering on the site. Could you please provide a copy of HTM 67 or an alternative accessible link for this document?

10. In the Solicitation, Supplies or Services & Prices or Costs table, Item 0001 indicates 12 Clinical Laboratory Work Benches. However, Attachment-1 Statement of Work, Section 3.0 Product Specifications & Delivery Requirements lists only 9 items from 3.5 to 3.13. Could you please clarify and provide the required quantity for each item?

-Should be 9 bench areas. See attachment with clarity.
