About this file

This document is a Requirement Description with Salient Characteristics for a Handheld Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) Device. The system must be operable by personnel with minimal training in fast-paced and ambiguous situations, with capability to detect and identify commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) drone communication protocols to distinguish between authorized and unauthorized aircraft. The device must track both the drone and its operator using real-time location data.

Key operational requirements include the ability to force drones to land, return to origin, or hover in place without causing physical damage to persons or property; portability and ease of use; and non-kinetic, user-friendly functionality suitable for operator-level defense. The system must detect and disrupt drones across the 400 MHz–6 GHz spectrum with integrated mitigation capabilities including jamming and optional Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) attack functionality. Technical specifications require omni-directional antennas with haptic, aural, and visual alerts; detection range up to 7 kilometers; Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) compatibility; AI/ML-powered drone identification with updated library; Radio Frequency (RF) Disruption and PNT Attack options; built-in LCD display, headset, and ATAK display support; and rifle-like ergonomics in handheld form. The system must also support Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal disruption capability and include remote identification and passive commercial drone telemetry detection and tracking.
