About this file

The document is a Salient Characteristics file detailing technical requirements for a Computed Radiography Unit procurement for the Department of the Air Force Pacific Air Forces. The requirement stems from replacing a current unit that does not meet technical data requirements, with the goal of enabling X-ray certification for metals technology personnel and supporting transient aircraft inspections. The approved CR Systems are General Electric CRx Flex and Flex II, and Carestream HPX-1 and HPX-1 Plus.

Specific requirements include a Computed Radiography Reader compatible with Air Force's Automated Computed Radiography Evaluation Software (ACRES), a desktop computer with DICONDE standard image formatting, a 3MP monitor, various imaging plates (14x17IN and 8x10IN), flexible and rigid cassettes, a cassette extraction tool, digital plate carrier, screen cleaner, and associated quality control accessories. The procurement also specifies delivery and installation requirements, including a one-day installation and one-day training period, with the unit needing to connect to a 110v outlet and fit in an 11 x 18 ft. room.

Salient Characteristics

Rationale of Requirement:

Replacement of the current Computed Radiography Unit that does not meet the technical data requirements. This new unit will allow compliance with the T.O. when processing X-ray film.

Additionally, members cannot perform X-ray to certify metals technology personnel on their welding certifications. Lastly members cannot perform X-rays on any possible transient aircraft as current unit does not meet T.O. requirements. The end goal is to certify metals technology personnel by performing X-rays on their welds and to support any transient aircraft that may require an X-ray inspection.

Computed Radiography System Requirements:

The requirements for the procurement of the Computed Radiography Unit are below. The vendor must meet or exceed these salient functional and physical requirements IAW T.O. The approved CR Systems are General Electric CRx Flex and Flex II. As well as the Carestream HPX-1 and the HPX-1 Plus.
