ASD Project No. 180-701
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION OF WORK
A. Miscellaneous metal parts, assemblies specified herein, shown or required to complete the work. Furnish and install supplementary parts, fastenings, anchors, closures, and hardware required to complete installation.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 FABRICATION
A. Use materials of size and thickness shown or, if not shown, of required size and thickness to produce strength and durability in finished product. Verify and work to dimensions shown or accepted on shop drawings, using proven details of fabrication and support. Use type of materials shown or specified for various components of work.
B. Form exposed work true to line and level with accurate angles and surfaces and straight sharp edges. Ease exposed edges to a radius of approximately 1/32", unless otherwise shown. Form bent metal corners to smallest radius possible without causing grain separation or otherwise impairing work.
C. Weld corners and seams continuously, complying with AWS recommendations. At exposed connections, grind exposed welds smooth and flush to match and blend with adjoining surfaces.
D. Make exposed joints close fitting, flush and smooth, and cut off exposed bolts and screws, flush with adjacent metal. Cut, drill, punch and tap as required for the installation and attachment of other work to miscellaneous metal work.
E. Metal work built in with concrete or masonry shall be formed for anchorage, or be provided with suitable anchors, expansion shields, or other anchoring devices shown or required. Furnish such metal work in ample time for setting and securing in place.
F. Provide for anchorage of type shown, coordinated with supporting structure. Fabricate and space anchoring devices to provide adequate support for intended use. Use exposed fasteners of type shown or approved equal.
G. Cut, reinforce, drill and tap miscellaneous metal work as indicated to receive finish hardware and similar items.
H. Make shop assemblies in the largest possible sections in order to reduce field connections to a minimum. Give all work a trial fit in the shop and mark for final assembly in the field. Provide alignment and splice plates for accurate field fit.
3.02 SPECIFIC ITEMS
A. Basically all major miscellaneous and ornamental iron items are detailed in the contract drawings. All fabrications shall be in accordance with these details and National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturer's Standards. The following list contains only a brief description, it shall not be interpreted to be complete and/or represent the limit of performance
B. Smooth steel bar grating shall be supplied for the bottom of the debris trough to allow ease of shoveling. Grating shall be rated for 100 pounds per square foot and be galvanized steel. Maximum width of bars shall be ½ inch. Maximum spacing between longitudinal bars shall be ½ inch and maximum height shall be 2 inches. The top of the transverse bars shall be a minimum of one quarter inch below the top surface of the longitudinal bars. Alaska Steel manufactures grating which complies with this specification.
C. Safety Grating shall be supplied for walking surface adjacent to the debris trough. Grating shall be rated for 100 pounds per square foot and be galvanized steel. Maximum open area for grating shall be 49% and maximum height shall be 2 inches (flush with top of headwall). Alaska Steel manufactures grating which complies with this specification.

3.03 INSTALLATION
A. Install all items of miscellaneous and architectural metal as shown on drawings, and installer must examine the areas and conditions under which miscellaneous metal items are to be installed and notify the Contractor in writing of missing backing or blocking and any other conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do not proceed with the work until such conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable to the installer.
B. Furnish setting drawings, diagrams, templates, instructions, and directions for installation of anchors, which are to be embedded in concrete or require backing. Coordinate and schedule work of this Section with work of other trades. Furnish anchors, sockets, fastenings, and other miscellaneous items to be embedded in concrete or required for securing metal work to other construction so as not to delay job progress.
C. Except where otherwise specified for a particular item of work or for built-in work, metal work shall be fastened to concrete with adhesive anchor bolts. Fastening to wood plugs will not be permitted. Drill holes for bolts to the exact diameter of bolt, using a rotary drill. Screws shall be threaded full length to the head of the screw.
D. Install work in locations shown, plumb, level, and in line with adjacent materials where required. Fastenings shall be as indicated on the Drawings, specified herein, or as shown on the shop drawings.
E. Provide connecting members needed for properly securing the work to concrete or structural framing; including bolts, rivets, machine screws, rods, hangers, inserts, sleeves, anchors, expansion bolts, washers, and other items as required.
