About this file
This document appears to be a questions and answers (Q&A) section related to a semi-annual inspection and maintenance contract for hoists and cranes. The document details two primary service items: Item #0001 (Semi-Annual Visit with Load Test) and Item #0002 (Semi-Annual Visit with Rope & Chain Inspection). Both items involve comprehensive inspections of various crane types, including monorail, gantry, bridge, and jib cranes with electric chain and wire rope hoists.
Key details include specifications for two annual visits - one in April involving full inspection and load testing, and another in September focusing on rope and chain inspection. Contractors must provide total visit costs for all hoists and cranes, not per-unit pricing. Access requirements include a REAL ID driver's license, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. The document references additional details in Sections 1.2.1.2, 1.2.1.3, and 4.5 for specific procedures, and notes that CAFB water cannot be used for load testing. Contractors are advised to refer to the referenced sections for complete scheduling and procedural information.

Item #0001 – Semi-Annual Visit w/ Load Test
1. Will we be conducting a full inspection followed by a load test?
Yes, see Section 1.2.1.2 regarding the April visit.
2. If performing the load test, will we have access to a fire hydrant or water trucks? We plan to use a water bladder to test cranes with high capacity (30 ton).
No, see Section 3.1. CAFB water shall not be used to source water for weight devices/load testing.
3. When pricing, should we provide the cost per unit or for the complete project?
Please price the total visit cost for all semi-annual visits on all hoists and cranes. Cost per unit should only be utilized/provided regarding proposals/quotes for repairs.
Item #0002 – Semi-Annual Visit w/ Rope & Chain Inspection
1. Is this a separate inspection for the load chains and wire ropes?
Similar to the April visit, as outlined in Section 1.2.1.3 the September visit is an inspection of all hoists and cranes with additional emphasis on rope and chain inspection.
2. If a separate inspection is required, are there specific procedures we must follow, and if so, will they be provided?
Review Sections 1.2.1.2. and 1.2.1.3. April is inspection and load testing for all hoists and cranes, and September is inspection and rope/chain length inspection. Section 1.2.1 and 1.2.11 outline scheduling procedures.
3. When pricing, should we provide the cost per unit or for the complete project?
Please price the total visit cost for all semi-annual visits on all hoists and cranes. Cost per unit should only be utilized/provided regarding proposals/quotes for repairs.
4. Are there any requirements we must meet before access is granted (e.g., on-site safety orientation, background checks, etc.)?
Required documentation is a REAL ID driver’s license (for each individual contractor), current vehicle registration and current proof of insurance.
Access requirements should be confirmed when scheduling visits though in case base procedures have updated in the interim.
5. What working hours will be available for the inspection/load test? Will weekend work be permitted?
See Section 4.5.
