1 PART 3 - EXECUTION

2 3.1 INSTALLATION AND APPLICATION

3 A. Size sleeves, blockouts and cutouts which will receive sealant seal such that free area to receive

4 sealant is minimized and seal integrity may be obtained.

5 B. Do not cut into or core drill any beams, joists, or columns.

6 C. Do not install sleeves in beams, joists, or columns.

7 D. Do not install recesses in beams, joists, columns, or slabs.

8 E. Field Cutting and Coring:

9 1. Saw or core drill with non-impact type equipment.

10 2. Mark opening and drill small 3/4 IN or less holes through structure following opening

11 outline.

12 3. Sawcut opening outline on both surfaces.

13 a. Knock out within sawcuts using impact type equipment.

14 b. Do not chip or spall face of surface to remain intact.

15 c. Do not allow any overcut with saw kerf.

16 F. Backer Rod and Sealant:

17 1. Install in accordance with Specification Section 07 92 00.

18 2. Provide backer rod and sealant for modular mechanical seal applications.

19 a. Apply on top side of slab penetrations and on interior, dry side wall penetrations.

20 3.2 SCHEDULES

21 A. General Schedule of Penetrations through Floors, Roofs, Foundation Base Slabs, Foundation 22 Walls, Foundation Footings, Partitions and Walls for Ductwork, Piping, and Conduit:

23 1. Provide the following opening and penetration types:

24 a. Type A - Block out 2 IN larger than outside dimensions of duct, pipe, or conduits.

25 b. Type B - Saw cut or line-drill opening. Place new concrete with integrally cast sheet 26 metal or pipe sleeve.

27 c. Type C - Fabricated sheet metal sleeve or pipe sleeve cast-in-place. Provide pipe 28 sleeve with water ring for wet and/or washdown areas.

29 d. Type D - Commercial type casting or fabrication.

30 e. Type E - Saw cut or line-drill opening. Place new concrete with integrally cast pipe, 31 duct or conduit spools.

32 f. Type F - Integrally cast pipe, duct or conduit.

33 g. Type G - Saw cut or line-drill and remove area 1 IN larger than outside dimensions of 34 duct, pipe or conduit.

35 h. Type H - Core drill.

36 i. Type I - Block out area. At later date, place new concrete with integrally cast sheet 37 metal or pipe sleeve.

38 2. Provide seals of material and method described as follows.

39 a. Category 1 - Modular Mechanical Seal.

40 b. Category 2 - Roof curb and flashing according to SMACNA specifications unless 41 otherwise noted on Drawings. Refer roofing Specification Sections for additional 42 requirements.

43 c. Category 3 - 12 GA sheet metal drip sleeve set in bed of silicon sealant with backing 44 rod and sealant used in sleeve annullus.

45 d. Category 4 - Backer rod and sealant.

46 e. Category 5 - Full depth compressible sealant with escutcheons on both sides of 47 opening.

48 f. Category 6 - Full depth compressible sealant and flanges on both sides of opening.

49 Flanges constructed of same material as duct, fastened to duct and minimum 1/2 IN 50 larger than opening.

1 g. Category 7 - Full depth compressible sealant and finish sealant or full depth expanding

2 foam sealant depending on application.

3 3. Furnish openings and sealing materials through existing floors, roofs, partitions and walls in

4 accordance with Schedule B, Openings and Penetrations for Existing Construction.

20 PART 3 - EXECUTION

21 3.1 CLEANING - GENERAL

22 A. Prevent accumulation of wastes that create hazardous conditions.

23 B. Conduct cleaning and disposal operations to comply with laws and safety orders of governing

24 authorities.

25 C. Do not dispose of volatile wastes such as mineral spirits, oil, or paint thinner in storm or sanitary

26 drains or sewers.

27 D. Dispose of degradable debris at an approved solid waste disposal site.

28 E. Dispose of nondegradable debris at an approved solid waste disposal site or in an alternate

29 manner approved by Contracting Officer and regulatory agencies.

30 F. Handle materials in a controlled manner with as few handlings as possible.

31 G. On completion of work, leave area in a clean, natural looking condition.

32 1. Remove all signs of temporary construction and activities incidental to construction of

33 required permanent Work.

34 H. Do not burn on-site.

35 3.2 INTERIOR CLEANING

36 A. Cleaning During Construction:

1 1. Keep work areas clean so as not to hinder health, safety or convenience of personnel in

2 existing facility operations.

3 2. At maximum weekly intervals, dispose of waste materials, debris, and rubbish.

4 3. Control dust in work areas of existing facilities.

5 a. Provide protection to existing electrical and mechanical equipment as required to

6 eliminate detrimental effects due to construction.

7 b. At maximum monthly intervals, check interior of existing electric panels and vacuum if

8 dust accumulation has occurred.

9 c. At maximum weekly intervals, sweep all floors, including basins, tunnels, platforms, 10 walkways, and pick up and dispose of all debris.

11 1) Use dust suppressant sweeping compound in areas open to areas of existing facility

12 operations.

13 B. Final Cleaning:

14 1. Complete immediately prior to substantial completion.

15 2. Remove grease, mastic, adhesives, dust, dirt, stains, fingerprints, labels, and other foreign 16 materials from sight-exposed surfaces.

17 3. Wipe all lighting fixture reflectors, lenses, lamps and trims clean.

18 4. Ventilating systems:

19 a. Clean permanent filters and replace disposable filters if units were operated during

20 construction.

21 b. Clean ducts, blowers and coils if units were operated without filters during 22 construction.

23 5. Replace all burned out lamps.

24 6. Broom clean industrial area floors.

25 3.3 EXTERIOR (SITE) CLEANING

26 A. Cleaning During Construction:

27 1. Construction debris:

28 a. Confine in strategically located container(s):

29 1) Cover to prevent blowing by wind.

30 2) Haul from site minimum once a week.

31 b. Remove from work area to container daily.

32 2. Vegetation: Keep weeds and other vegetation trimmed to 3 IN maximum height.

33 3. Soils, sand, and gravel deposited on paved areas and walks:

34 a. Remove as required to prevent muddy or dusty conditions.

35 b. Do not flush into storm sewer system.

36 B. Final Cleaning:

37 1. Remove trash and debris containers from site.

38 a. Re-seed areas disturbed by location of trash and debris containers.

39 2. Clean paved roadways.

40 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

41 A. Immediately prior to substantial completion, conduct an inspection with Contracting Officer to

42 verify condition of all work areas.

1 2.2 MANUFACTURED UNITS

2 A. Building Wire:

3 1. Conductor shall be copper with 600 V rated insulation.

4 2. Conductors shall be stranded, except for conductors used in lighting and receptacle circuits 5 which may be stranded or solid.

6 3. Surface mark with manufacturer's name or trademark, conductor size, insulation type and 7 UL label.

8 4. Conform to NEMA/ICEA WC 70/S-95-658 and UL 83 for type THHN/THWN and 9 THHN/THWN-2 insulation.

10 5. Conform to NEMA/ICEA WC 70/S-95-658 and UL 44 for type XHHW-2 insulation.

11 B. Control Cable:

12 1. Conductor shall be copper with 600 V rated insulation.
