Grassy Ponds Dock Q&A
1. Would you consider an aluminum dock frame instead of galvanized steel? Aluminum is a better suited for marine docks or any floating platform. It offers a very long lifespan with little to no maintenance.
No, we would prefer Galvanized steel.
2. Sourcing pilings takes some time and depending on the area, can be quite expensive. We would suggest using chain and anchors with the appropriate load requirements for the dock. Is this something you would consider?
No, pilings are required for this contract. On the SOW under section 3.1 under the pilings it will have all the requirements we desire.
3. What is the turnaround time for this project?
60 days following award.
Just so we are clear, this is a 80’ floating dock walkway (not including the 10’ entry ramp) leading to to 10’ X 60’ “T”?
On the SOW under section 3.1 under the walkway and entry ramp it will have all the requirements we desire.
How wide do you want the walkway?
It is a 4’ walkway.
Looking at the dimensions, we would normally manufacture the T shape in 10’X20’ sections to make installation as easy as possible. Is that acceptable?
Yes, that would be acceptable.
Will all galvanized construction be all welded or welded and bolter?
Welded and bolted.
Will all welded aluminum be acceptable?
No. Please refer to the SOW for what materials are acceptable on this contract.
What is the walkway material for the walkway/floating dock?
Same as the material for the rest of the floating dock except for the non-slip material that must be included on the walkway.
Is there a height requirement from the waters level to the top of the finished floating dock structure is to be off the water?
The floating dock is used only for fishing and no boats will be docked to it so that people can get in and out of the boat. Therefore, the “freeboard” measurement should be 6”-12.”
Many of the floating dock manufacturers only offer sections in a 5’x10’ configuration. Will these be acceptable in lieu of the 5’x20’ listed?
Yes, these are acceptable requirements.
