About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for federal contract FA480326R0002: B402 Install HVAC Chase Doors under solicitation VLSB 25-2503. The document addresses six key contractor inquiries regarding project execution and specifications.
The government clarified several critical requirements: contractors may order one standard door size and rework openings to accommodate the doors, provided smaller doors supply adequate chase access and remain within ±4 inches of existing opening dimensions (height and width). The government approved framing out rooms with protruding rubber boots or fittings to create clearance, allowing walls to extend approximately 1-1/2 inches from flush. For door dimensions and site readiness details, contractors must consult the Statement of Work and its attached specifications, as additional field cutting and framing may be required depending on door type selection. Factory-finished doors are acceptable; however, the contractor bears responsibility for replacing any doors sustaining paint or physical damage during construction. Regarding the original 30-day period of performance from Notice to Proceed, the government directed contractors to reference the updated period in the Statement of Work rather than providing a direct extension approval. All door dimension specifications and opening preparation status are detailed in the SOW documentation referenced throughout these responses.

FA480326R0002: B402 Install HVAC Chase Doors
Questions and Answers
1. Period of Performance – The solicitation indicates that the project needs to be complete within 30 days from Notice to Proceed. We believe that it will take, at a minimum 3-4 weeks just to order and receive access doors. Can the period of performance be extended?
a. Government Response: Please updated Period of Performance in the SOW.
2. Access Door Size – clearly there are a variety of existing opening sizes throughout the
40 suites. Is it the intention of the government to have a custom door sized to each opening, or can one door size be ordered and the openings modified to suit the standard door?
a. Government Response: The Govt will allow the contractor to order one door size and they can rework the opening to accommodate the door. However the smaller door shall provide adequate access to the HVAC chase and shall be approved by the Govt. The door shall be within + - 4’’ on the existing opening dimensions.
height and width. The contractor is responsible for ensuring the doors dimensions will work for the opening.
3. There are a few rooms where the rubber boot or fittings protrude outside the walls. Can these rooms be framed to create a box out so that the new installed panels do not come in contact with the components of the unit? Most likely, this would bring the wall out about 1-1/2” from flush.
a. Government Response: The Govt will allow the contractor to frame out those rooms to create a box.
4. Door Dimensions: Are all forty (40) HVAC chase doors uniform in size throughout the facility?
a. Government Response: Please the SOW and its attached dimensions.
5. Site Readiness: Have all forty (40) door openings already been cut and prepared for
VLSB 25-2503
door installation, or will additional field cutting and framing be required?
a. Government Response: It depends on what type of door the contractor intends to install. See answer 2 and 3.
6. Painting Requirements: Should the doors be factory-finished, field-painted, or is painting limited to wall touch-ups following installation?
a. Government Response: Factory-Finished doors are acceptable. However, any paint and or physical damage during construction shall be corrected by the contractor by replacing the door.
