About this file
This document contains a set of questions and answers for a procurement of portable HVAC units. The Q&A clarifies several key specifications for the equipment: installation is not required, the 10-ton unit does not need to be a downflow configuration and can be a horizontal/side unit, the unit is not required to be on a wheeled cart, and the procurement is for equipment sale only. Regarding heating options, while the original specification indicated gas heat (180MBH), an electric heat pump unit is also acceptable, which is considered easier to use in a portable configuration. The responses provide flexibility to potential bidders by allowing alternative unit configurations that meet the core requirements of the portable HVAC units.

QUESTIONS FOR PORTABLE HVAC UNITS.
1. Can you please confirm if installation is a requirement or not for the awarded bidder?
a. No. Installation is not required.
2. Does the 10-ton unit need to have downflow supply and return, and must it be gas-powered heat? It is very difficult to make a unit portable if it is a downflow unit with gas heat.
a. No, a downflow is not required. A horizontal/side unit is acceptable.
3. Does the 10-ton unit need to be on a wheeled cart as well? The specification does not mention this.
a. No. The 10-ton unit is not required to be wheeled.
4. Is the bid for equipment sale only or is the total scope Equipment plus labor installation.
a. Equipment Only. Installation is not required.
5. Can you please confirm if installation is a requirement or not for the awarded bidder?
a. Installation is not required.
6. The Colman unit P/N calls out a “Down Flow” unit. This means the air is supplied from under the unit and not from the side of the unit like normal. Thus type of unit generally gets put on a roof and discharges down into the building. We sell dedicated horizontal units. See photo. Notice the air is supplied from the end of the unit and is returned to the end of the unit.
a. No, a downflow is not required. A horizontal/side unit is acceptable.
7. 180MBH indicates they want GAS heat. This is difficult to provide on a “portable” unit. Generally, a portable unit will have electric heat. Easier to use.
a. An Electric Heat Pump unit is also acceptable.
