1.3. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Deliver doors, frames, and accessories undamaged in Manufacturer's original packaging with protective wrappings or packaging. Strap knock-down frames in bundles. Provide temporary steel spreaders securely fastened to the bottom of each welded frame. Inspect doors and frames upon delivery. Store doors and frames vertically on platforms under cover in clean, dry, ventilated, and accessible locations, with 1/4 inch airspace between doors. Remove damp or wet packaging immediately and wipe affected surfaces dry. Replace damaged materials with new.

PART 2. PRODUCT

2.1. STANDARD STEEL DOORS AND FRAMES

2.1.1. SDI/DOOR A250.8

SDI/DOOR A250.8, except as specified otherwise. Prepare doors to receive door hardware as specified in Section 08 71 00. Undercut where indicated. Exterior doors shall have top edge closed flush and sealed to prevent water intrusion. Doors shall be 1-3/4 inch thick, unless otherwise indicated. Provide exterior glazing if required per specific Task Order in accordance with ASTM F 2248 and ASTM E 1300. Exterior steel doors shall have a minimum R factor of

10. All steel doors shall be mounted with a minimum of three hinges per door.

2.1.1.1. Minimum Internal Construction Requirements for External Doors Vertical stiffeners: 22 gage steel spaced at maximum 6 inches on center. Spot weld to face panels at maximum 6-inch intervals.

2.1.1.2. Minimum Insulation Requirements

Exterior doors shall have factory foamed in place polyurethane core, minimum 20 psi compressive strength and 20 psi shear strength. Bond strength to steel face sheets shall exceed strength of foam to prevent delamination.

2.1.1.3. Classification - Level, Performance, Model

Unless specifically noted otherwise all exterior steel doors and frames shall conform to SDI/DOOR A250.8, Level 3, Extra Heavy-Duty, 16 gage stretcher leveled sheets, Model 2 (seamless), insulated. See Paragrpah 2.1.3.3 below.

2.1.1.4. Standard Duty Doors

SDI/DOOR A250.8, Level 1, physical performance Level C, Model 1 , 1 3/4" thick and of size(s) and design(s) indicated and core construction as required by the manufacturer.

2.1.1.5. Heavy Duty Doors

SDI/DOOR A250.8, Level 2, physical performance Level B, Model 2 , with core construction as required by the manufacturer for interior doors and for exterior doors, of size(s) and design(s) indicated. Where vertical stiffener cores are required, the space between the stiffeners shall be filled with mineral board

2.1.1.6. Extra Heavy Duty Doors

SDI/DOOR A250.8, Level 3, physical performance Level A, Model 2 with core construction as required by the manufacturer for interior doors and for indicated exterior doors, of size(s) and design(s) indicated.,,Where vertical stiffener cores are required, the space between the stiffeners shall be filled with mineral board insulation. Maximum Duty Doors SDI/DOOR A250.8, Level 4, physical performance Level A, Model 2 with core construction as required by the manufacturer for interior doors and for indicated exterior doors, of size(s) and design(s) indicated. Where vertical stiffener cores are required, the space between the stiffeners shall be filled with mineral board insulation.

2.2. CUSTOM HOLLOW METAL DOORS

Provide custom hollow metal doors where nonstandard steel doors are indicated. Door size(s), design(s), materials, construction, gages, and finish shall be as specified for standard steel doors and shall comply with the requirement of NAAMM HMMA HMM. Fill all spaces in doors with insulation. Close top and bottom edges with steel channels not lighter than 16 gage. Close tops of exterior doors flush with an additional channel and seal to prevent water intrusion. Prepare doors to receive hardware specified in DOOR HARDWARE. Doors shall be 1-3/4 inch thick, unless otherwise indicated.

2.3. INSULATED STEEL DOOR SYSTEMS

If approved by the Contracting Officer, insulated steel doors and frames may be provided in lieu of Grade I standard steel doors and frames. Door size(s), design, and material shall be as specified for standard steel doors. Insulated steel doors shall have a core of polyurethane foam and an R factor of 10.0 or more (based on a k value of 0.16); face sheets, edges, and frames of galvanized steel shall be in accordance with specific Task Order requirements but in no case lighter than 23 gage, 16 gage, and 16 gage respectively; magnetic weather stripping; non-removable-pin hinges; thermal-break aluminum threshold;

and vinyl door bottom. Doors and frames shall receive phosphate treatment, rust-inhibitive primer, and baked acrylic enamel finish. Doors shall have been tested in accordance with SDI/DOOR A250.4 and shall have met the requirements for Level C. Prepare doors to receive specified hardware. Doors shall be 1-3/4 inch thick.

2.4. ACCESSORIES

2.4.1.1. Astragals

For pairs of exterior steel doors which will not have aluminum astragals or removable mullions, provide overlapping steel astragals with the doors. For interior pairs of fire rated and smoke control doors, provide stainless steel astragals complying with NFPA 80 for fire rated assemblies and NFPA 105 for smoke control assemblies.

2.4.1.2. Moldings

Provide moldings around glass of interior and exterior doors and louvers of interior doors. Provide non-removable moldings on outside of exterior doors and on corridor side of interior doors. Other moldings may be stationary or removable. Secure inside moldings to stationary moldings, or provide snap-on moldings. Muntins shall interlock at intersections and shall be fitted and welded to stationary moldings.

2.5. INSULATION CORES

Insulated cores shall be of type specified, and provide an apparent factor of .48 in accordance with SDI/DOOR 113 and shall conform to:

Rigid Cellular Polyisocyanurate Foam: ASTM C 591, Type I or II, foamed-in-place or in board form, with oxygen index of not less than 22 percent when tested in accordance with ASTM D 2863; or Rigid Polystyrene Foam Board: ASTM C 578, Type I or II; or Mineral board: ASTM C 612, Type I.

2.6. STANDARD STEEL FRAMES

Provide steel frames for doors, transoms, sidelights, mullions, cased openings, and interior glazed panels, unless otherwise indicated. Form frames to sizes and shapes required per SOW.

Steel Frames shall conform to the following unless specifically noted otherwise: SDI/DOOR A250.8, Level 3, fully welded.

2.6.1. Welded Frames

Continuously weld frame faces at corner joints. Mechanically interlock or continuously weld stops and rabbets. Grind welds smooth.

Weld frames in accordance with the recommended practice of the Structural Welding Code Sections 1 through 6, AWS D1.1/D1.1M and in accordance with the practice specified by the producer of the metal being welded.

2.6.2. Mullions and Transom Bars

Mullions and transom bars shall be closed or tubular construction and be a member with heads and jambs butt-welded thereto or knock-down for field assembly. Bottom of door mullions shall have adjustable floor anchors and spreader connections.

2.6.3. Stops and Beads

Form stops and beads from 20 gage steel. Provide for glazed and other openings in standard steel frames.

Secure beads to frames with oval-head, countersunk Phillips self-tapping sheet metal screws or conCEIled clips and fasteners. Space fasteners approximately 12 to 16 inch on center.

Miter molded shapes at corners. Butt or miter square or rectangular beads at corners.

2.6.4. Terminated Stops

Where indicated, terminate interior door frame stops 6 inch above floor. Do not terminate stops of frames for soundproof, doors.

Cased Openings Fabricate frames for cased openings of same material, gage, and assembly as specified for metal door frames, except omit door stops and preparation for hardware.

2.6.5. Anchors

Provide anchors to secure the frame to adjoining construction. Provide steel anchors, zinc-coated or painted with rust-inhibitive paint, not lighter than 18 gage.

2.6.6. Wall Anchors

Provide at least three anchors for each jamb. For frames which are more than 7.5 feet in height, provide one additional anchor for each jamb for each additional 2.5 feet or fraction thereof.

Masonry: Provide anchors of corrugated or perforated steel straps or 3/16 inch diameter steel wire, adjustable or T-shaped;

2.6.7. Stud partitions:

Weld or otherwise securely fasten anchors to backs of frames. Design anchors to be fastened to wood studs with nails, to closed steel studs with sheet metal screws, and to open steel studs by wiring or welding;

2.6.8. Completed openings:

Secure frames to previously placed concrete or masonry with expansion bolts in accordance with SDI/DOOR 111; and

2.6.9. Solid plaster partitions:

Secure anchors solidly to back of frames and tie into the lath. Provide adjustable top strut anchors on each side of frame for fastening to structural members or ceiling construction above.

Size and type of strut anchors shall be as recommended by the frame manufacturer.

2.6.10. Floor Anchors

Provide floor anchors drilled for 3/8 inch anchor bolts at bottom of each jamb member. Where floor fill occurs, terminate bottom of frames at the indicated finished floor levels and support by adjustable extension clips resting on and anchored to the structural slabs.

2.7. FIRE AND SMOKE DOORS AND FRAMES

2.7.1. NFPA 80 and NFPA 105 and this specification.

The requirements of NFPA 80 and NFPA 105 shall take precedence over details indicated or specified.

2.7.2. Labels

Fire doors and frames shall bear the label of Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Factory Mutual Engineering and Research (FM), or Warnock Hersey International (WHI) attesting to the rating required. Testing shall be in accordance with NFPA 252 or UL 10C. Labels shall be metal with raised letters, and shall bear the name or file number of the door and frame manufacturer. Labels shall be permanently affixed at the factory to frames and to the hinge edge of the door. Door labels shall not be painted.

2.7.3. Oversized Doors

For fire doors and frames which exceed the size for which testing and labeling are available, furnish certificates stating that the doors and frames are identical in design, materials, and construction to a door which has been tested and meets the requirements for the class indicated.

Astragal on Fire and Smoke Doors On pairs of labeled fire doors, conform to NFPA 80 and UL requirements. On smoke control doors, conform to NFPA 105.

2.8. WEATHERSTRIPPING

As specified in DOOR HARDWARE.

2.8.1. Integral Gasket

Black synthetic rubber gasket with tabs for factory fitting into factory slotted frames, or extruded neoprene foam gasket made to fit into a continuous groove formed in the frame, may be provided in lieu of head and jamb seals specified in DOOR HARDWARE. Insert gasket in groove after frame is finish painted. Air leakage of weather stripped doors shall not exceed 0.5 cubic feet per minute of air per square foot of door area when tested in accordance with ASTM E 283.

2.9. HARDWARE PREPARATION

Provide minimum hardware reinforcing gages as specified in SDI/DOOR A250.6. Drill and tap doors and frames to receive finish hardware. Prepare doors and frames for hardware in accordance with the applicable requirements of SDI/DOOR A250.8 and SDI/DOOR A250.6. For additional requirements refer to ANSI/BHMA A156.115.

Drill and tap for surface-applied hardware at the project site. Build additional reinforcing for surface-applied hardware into the door at the factory. Locate hardware in accordance with the requirements of SDI/DOOR A250.8, as applicable. Punch door frames, with the exception of frames that will have weather stripping or soundproof gasket, to receive a minimum of two rubber or vinyl door silencers on lock side of single doors and one silencer for each leaf at heads of double doors. Set lock strikes out to provide clearance for silencers.

2.10. FINISHES

Standard Steel Door and Frame Factory-Primed Finish This standards shall apply for all steel doors and frames unless specifically noted otherwise per SOW requirements.

2.10.1. Hot-Dip Zinc-Coated and Factory-Primed Finish

Fabricate exterior doors and frames from hot dipped zinc coated steel, alloyed type, that complies with ASTM A 924/A 924Mand ASTM A 653/A 653M. The coating weight shall meet or exceed the minimum requirements for coatings having 0.4 ounces per square foot, total both sides, i.e., A40.

Repair damaged zinc-coated surfaces by the application of zinc dust paint. Thoroughly clean and chemically treat to insure maximum paint adhesion. Factory prime as specified in SDI/DOOR A250.8.

2.10.2. Non-Standard Steel Door and Frame Factory-Primed Finish Non-standard steel door and frame finish shall not substituted for standard steel door and frame finish without specific exception noted and approved by the Contracting Officer.

Non-Standard Factory-Primed Finish for Non-Galvanized Doors and Frames All surfaces of doors and frames shall be thoroughly cleaned, chemically treated and factory primed with a rust inhibiting coating as specified in SDI/DOOR A250.8. , or paintable A25 galvanized steel without primer. Where coating is removed by welding, apply touchup of factory primer.

2.10.3. Electrolytic Zinc-Coated Anchors and Accessories

Provide electrolytically deposited zinc-coated steel in accordance with ASTM A 879/A 879M, Commercial Quality, Coating Class A. Phosphate treat and factory prime zinc-coated surfaces as specified in SDI/DOOR A250.8.

2.10.4. Factory-Applied Enamel Finish

Coatings shall meet test procedures and acceptance criteria in accordance with SDI/DOOR A250.3. After factory priming, apply two coats of medium-gloss enamel to exposed surfaces. Separately bake or oven dry each coat. Drying time and temperature requirements shall be in accordance with the coating manufacturer's recommendations. Color(s) of finish coat shall match approved color sample(s).

2.11. FABRICATION AND WORKMANSHIP

Finished doors and frames shall be strong and rigid, neat in appearance, and free from defects, waves, scratches, cuts, dents, ridges, holes, warp, and buckle. Molded members shall be clean cut, straight, and true, with joints coped or mitered, well formed, and in true alignment. Dress exposed welded and soldered joints smooth. Design door frame sections for use with the wall construction indicated. Corner joints shall be well formed and in true alignment. Connect fastenings where practicable.

Frames for use in solid plaster partitions shall be welded construction. On wraparound frames for masonry partitions, provide a throat opening 1/8 inch larger than the actual masonry thickness. Design other frames in exposed masonry walls or partitions to allow sufficient space between the inside back of trim and masonry to receive calking compound.

Grouted Frames For frames to be installed in exterior walls and to be filled with mortar or grout, fill the stops with strips of rigid insulation to keep the grout out of the stops and to facilitate installation of stop-applied head and jamb seals.

PART 3. EXECUTION

3.1. INSTALLATION

3.1.1. Frames

Set frames in accordance with SDI/DOOR A250.11. Plumb, align, and brace securely until permanent anchors are set. Anchor bottoms of frames with expansion bolts or powder-actuated fasteners. Build in or secure wall anchors to adjoining construction. Minimum 3 anchor locations each side with maximum vertical spacing of 30 inches. Where frames require ceiling struts or overhead bracing, anchor frames to the struts or bracing.

Backfill frames with mortar. Coat inside of frames with corrosion-inhibiting bituminous material. For frames in exterior walls, ensure that stops are filled with rigid insulation before grout is placed.

3.1.2. Doors

Hang doors in accordance with clearances specified in SDI/DOOR A250.8. After erection and glazing, clean and adjust hardware.

Fire and Smoke Doors and Frames Install fire doors and frames, including hardware, in accordance with NFPA 80. Install fire rated smoke doors and frames in accordance with NFPA 80 and NFPA 105.

3.2. PROTECTION

Protect doors and frames from damage. Repair damaged doors and frames prior to completion and acceptance of the project or replace with new, as directed. Wire brush rusted frames until rust is removed.

Clean thoroughly. Apply an all-over coat of rust-inhibitive paint of the same type used for shop coat.

3.3. CLEANING

Upon completion, clean exposed surfaces of doors and frames thoroughly. Remove mastic smears and other unsightly marks.

1.3. SHOP DRAWINGS

Submit manufacturer's detail drawings indicating all hardware assembly components and interface with adjacent construction. Base shop drawings on verified field measurements and include verification of existing conditions.

1.4. PRODUCT DATA

Indicate fire-ratings at applicable components. Provide documentation of ABA/ADA accessibility compliance of applicable components, as required by 36 CFR 1191 Appendix D - Technical.

1.5. HARDWARE SCHEDULE

Provide a hardware schedule similar to DHI's "Vertical Hardware Schedule for Typical Openings." The hardware schedule shall include for each item: the quantities; manufacture’s name and catalog numbers; the ANSI number specified, sizes; detail information or catalog cuts;

finishes; door and frame size and materials; location and hardware set identification; locks trim material thicknesses; lock trim material evaluation test results; corresponding reference standard type number or function number from manufacturer's catalog if not covered by ANSI or BHMA;

and a list of abbreviations and template numbers. In addition, submit hardware schedule data package.

1.6. KEY BITTING CHART REQUIREMENTS

Submit key bitting charts to the Contracting Officer prior to completion of the work. Include:

• Complete listing of all keys (e.g. AA1 and AA2).

• Complete listing of all key cuts (AA1-123456, AA2-123458).

• Tabulation showing which key fits which door.

• Copy of floor plan showing doors and door numbers.

• Listing of 20 percent more key cuts than are presently required in each master system.

1.7. QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.7.1. Hardware Manufacturers and Modifications

Provide, as far as feasible, locks, hinges,[ pivots,] and closers of one lock, hinge,[ pivot,] or closer manufacturer's make. Modify hardware as necessary to provide features indicated or specified.

1.7.2. Key Shop Drawings Coordination Meeting

Prior to the submission of the key shop drawing, the Contracting Officer, Contractor, Door Hardware Subcontractor, using Activity and Base Locksmith must meet to discuss and coordinate key requirements for the facility.

1.7.3. Pre-delivery Conference

Upon approval of the Hardware Schedule, the Contractor shall arrange a conference with the hardware supplier and Contracting Officer to determine keying system requirements.

1.8. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Deliver hardware to the Contracting Officer in the manufacturer's original individual containers, complete with necessary appurtenances including fasteners, special tools and instructions. Mark each individual container with item number as shown in hardware schedule. Deliver permanent keys and removable cores via certified mail to:

1.9. SPECIAL TOOLS

Special tools, such as those supplied by the manufacturer, unique wrenches and dogging keys, shall be provided as required to adjust hardware items.

PART 2. PRODUCTS

2.1. TEMPLATES

Requirements for hardware to be mounted on metal doors or metal frames shall be coordinated between hardware manufacturer and door or frame manufacturer by use of templates and other information to establish location, reinforcement required, size of holes, and similar details.

Templates of hinges shall conform to BHMA A156.7.

2.2. HARDWARE FOR FIRE DOORS AND EXIT DOORS

Provide all hardware necessary to meet the requirements of NFPA 80 for fire doors and NFPA 101 for exit doors, as well as to other requirements indicated, even if such hardware is not specifically mentioned under paragraph entitled "Hardware Schedule." Provide the label of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for such hardware listed in UL Bld Mat Dir or labeled and listed by another testing laboratory acceptable to the Contracting Officer.

2.3. HARDWARE ITEMS

2.3.1. Hinges

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.1. Provide hinges that are 4-1/2 by 4-1/2 inch unless otherwise indicated or required for historic doors. Construct reverse-bevel exterior doors so that pins are non-removable when door is closed. Other anti-friction bearing hinges may be provided in lieu of ball bearing hinges.

2.3.2. Protection Devices

Provide full height hand and finger protection device at the hinge-side area opening of doors and gates. Provide hinge-side protection devices on both sides of doors and gates, covering hinges and space between door and frame when doors are in the open position. The installed device must push hand and fingers out of the opening and away from a crushing hazard.

2.3.3. Locks and Latches

At exterior locations provide locksets of full stainless steel type 302 or 304 construction including fronts, strike, escutcheons, knobs, bolts and all interior working parts. Marine Grade I, fully non-ferrous. Mortise Locks and Latches. Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.13, Series 1000, Operational Grade 1, Security Grade 2 Provide knobs and roses of mortise locks with screwless shanks and no exposed screws.

2.3.4. Bored Locks and Latches

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.2, Series 4000, Grade 1. Provide factory installed lead lining in locks for lead -shielded doors.

2.3.5. Exit Devices

2.3.6. Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.3, Grade 1. Provide adjustable strikes for rim type and vertical rod devices. Provide open back strikes for pairs of doors with mortise and vertical rod devices. Provide conventional crossbars and arms. Provide escutcheons not less than 7 by 2-1/4 inch.

2.3.7. Use stainless steel or bronze base metal with plated finishes. Also include stainless steel fasteners and screws.

2.3.8. Exit Locks with Alarm

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.3 and ANSI/BHMA A156.29, Type E0431 with full width horizontal actuating bar for single doors. Provide outside control key. Provide door alarms integrated with the fire alarm system in accordance with NFPA 72.

2.3.9. Cylinders and Cores

Provide cylinders and cores for new locks, including locks provided under other sections of this specification. Provide cylinders and cores with seven (7) pin tumblers. Provide cylinders from the products of one manufacturer, and provide cores from the products of same manufacturerStamp each interchangeable core with a key control symbol in a concealed place on the core.

Provide cylinders for new locks, including locks provided under other sections of this specification. Provide fully compatible cylinders of Grade 1 products from products of one manufacturer with interchangeable “BEST” cores that are removable by a special control key.

Factory set the cores with seven (7) pin tumblers using the A4 system and F keyway. Submit a core code sheet with the cores. Provide master keyed cores in one system for this project.

Provide construction interchangeable “BEST” cores.

2.3.10. Electrified Hardware

Comply with the requirements of NFPA 70 for wiring of electrified hardware.

2.3.11. Electric Strikes and Frame Mounted Actuators

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.31, Grade 1. Provide electric strikes and actuators as required to meet operational requirements. Provide electric strikes that[release automatically during power failure. Provide strikes and actuators with a minimum opening force of 2300 pounds.

Provide facility interface devices that use direct current (dc) power to energize the solenoids.

Provide electric strikes and actuators that incorporate end-of-line resistors to facilitate line supervision by the system. If not incorporated into the electric strike or local controller, provide metal oxide resistors (MOVs) to protect the controller from reverse current surges.

2.3.12. Solenoid

Provide actuating solenoid for strikes and actuators that are rated for continuous duty, cannot dissipate more than 12 Watts and must operate on 12 or 24 Volts dc. Inrush current cannot exceed 1 ampere and the holding current cannot be greater than 500 milli-amperes. Actuating solenoid must move from fully secure to fully open positions in less than 500 milliseconds.

2.3.13. Signal Switches

Provide strikes and actuators with signal switches to indicate to the system when the bolt is not engaged or the strike mechanism is unlocked. Signal switches must report a forced entry to the system.

2.3.14. Tamper Resistance

Provide strike guards that prevent tampering with the latch bolt of the locking hardware or the latch bolt keeper of the electric strike. Strike guards to bolt through the door using tamper resistant screws. Provide strike guards made of 1/8 inch thick brass and that are 11-1/14 inch high by 1-5/8 inch wide, with a minimum 5/32 inch wide offset.

2.3.15. Coordination

Provide electric strikes and actuators of a size, weight and profile compatible with each specified door frame. Field verify installation clearances prior to procurement.

2.3.16. Mounting Method

Provide electric strikes and actuators suitable for use with single and double doors, with mortise or rim type hardware specified, and for right or left hand mounting as specified. In double door installations, locate the lock in the active leaf and monitor the fixed leaf.

2.3.17. Electrified Mortise Locks

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.25, Grade 1. Provide electrified mortise locks that release automatically during power failure. Provide facility interface devices that use dc power to energize solenoids. Provide solenoids, resisters, and signal switches in accordance with paragraph ELECTRIC STRIKES AND FRAME MOUNTED ACTUATORS.

2.3.18. Power Transfer Hinges

Provide power transfer hinges with each electrified lock that route power and monitoring signals from the lockset to the door frame. Coordinate power transfer hinges with door frames.

2.3.19. Closer Holders

Provide floor mounted closer holder devices connected by separate releasing to fire smoke detecting devices.

2.3.20. Tamper Resistance

Provide lock mechanism encased in hardened guard barriers to deter forced entry.

2.3.21. Mounting Method

Provide electromagnetic lock suitable for use with single and double door with mortise or rim type hardware and compatible with right or left hand mounting.

2.3.22. Keying System

Provide cylinders of Grade 1 products from one manufacturer. Notify the Contracting Officer 90 days prior to the required delivery of the cylinders. Provide temporary cores and keys for the Contractor's use during construction, and for testing of locksets.

2.3.23. Lock Trim

Provide cast, forged, or heavy wrought construction and commercial plain design for lock trim.

2.3.24. Knobs and Roses

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.2 and ANSI/BHMA A156.13 for knobs, roses, and escutcheons. For unreinforced knobs, roses, and escutcheons, provide a 0.050 inch thickness.

For reinforced knobs, roses, and escutcheons, provide an outer shell thickness of 0.035 inch and a combined total thickness of 0.070 inch, except at knob shanks. Provide knob shanks 0.060 inch thick.

2.3.25. Keys

Provide one file key, one duplicate key, and one working key for each key change and for each master and grand master keying system. Provide one additional working key for each lock of each keyed-alike group. Provide two additional keys for each sleeping room. Provide two (2) construction master keys, and two (2) control keys for removable cores. Provide a quantity of key blanks equal to 20 percent of the total number of file keys. Stamp each key with appropriate key control symbol and "U.S. property - do not duplicate." Do not place room number on keys.

Provide seven change keys for each interchangeable core, provide two control keys, six maters keys, and six construction master keys. Provide a quantity of key blanks equal to 20 percent of the total number of change keys. Stamp each key with appropriate key control symbol and "U.S.

property - do not duplicate." Do not place room numbers on keys.

2.3.26. Door Stops and Silencers

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.16. Silencers Type L03011. Provide three silencers for each single door, two for each pair.

2.3.27. Thresholds

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.21. Use J35100, with vinyl or silicone rubber insert in face of stop, for exterior doors opening out, unless specified otherwise.

2.3.28. Weathers tripping Gasket

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.22. Provide the type and function designation where specified in paragraph HARDWARE SCHEDULE. Provide a set to include head and jamb seals, sweep strips, Air leakage of weather stripped doors not to exceed 0.5cubic feet per minute of air per square foot of door area when tested in accordance with ASTM E283.

2.3.29. Extruded Aluminum Retainers

2.3.30. Interlocking Type

Zinc or bronze not less than 0.018 inch thick.

2.3.31. Spring Tension Type

Spring bronze or stainless steel not less than 0.008 inch thick.

2.3.32. Light proofing and Soundproofing Gasket

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.22. Provide adjustable doorstops at heads, jambs and automatic door bottoms in accordance with the hardware set, of extruded aluminum, [clear (natural)] [bronze] anodized, surface applied, with vinyl fin seals between plunger and housing.

Provide doorstops with solid neoprene tube, silicone rubber, or closed cell sponge gasket.

Provide door bottoms with adjustable operating rod and silicone rubber or closed cell sponge neoprene gasket. Provide doorstops that are mitered at corners. Provide type and function designation where specified in paragraph HARDWARE SETS.

2.3.33. Rain Drips

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.22. Provide extruded aluminum rain drips, not less than 0.08 inch thick, clear finish. Provide the manufacturer's full range of color choices to the Contracting Officer for color selection. Provide rain drips with a 4 inch overlap on each side of each exterior door that is not protected by an awning, roof, eave or other horizontal projection.

Set drips in sealant and fasten with stainless steel screws.

2.3.34. Door Rain Drips

Approximately 1-1/2 inch high by 5/8 inch projection. Align bottom with bottom edge of door.

2.3.35. Overhead Rain Drips

Approximately 1-1/2 inch high by 2-1/2 inch projection. Align bottom with door frame rabbet.

2.3.36. Auxiliary Hardware (Other than locks)

Provide in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.16, Grade 1.

2.3.37. Special Tools

Provide special tools, such as spanner and socket wrenches and dogging keys, as required to service and adjust hardware items.

2.4. LOCKS AND LATCHES

To the maximum extent possible, locksets, latchsets and deadlocks, and all components thereof, including cylinders and removable cores, shall be the products of a single manufacturer. Lock fronts for double-acting doors shall be rounded. Strikes for wood frames and pairs of wood doors shall be furnished with wrought boxes.

2.4.1. Mortise Locks and Latches

Mortise lock, latchsets, and strikes shall be series 1000 and shall conform to BHMA A156.13, operational Grade 1. Strikes for security doors shall be rectangular without curved lip. Mortise type locks and latches for doors 1-3/4 inches thick and over shall have adjustable bevel fronts or otherwise conform to the shape of the door. Mortise locks shall have armored fronts.

2.4.2. Bored Locks and Latches

Bored lock, latchsets, and strikes shall be series 4000 and shall conform to BHMA A156.2, Grade 1. Bored type locks and latches for doors 1-3/8 inches thick and over shall have adjustable bevel fronts or otherwise conform to the shape of the door.

2.4.3. Electro-Mechanical Locks

Electro-mechanical locks shall allow for locking or unlocking of doors from a remote location by means of card reader. Locks shall be fail secured mode (exterior side only locked when power is off). Locks shall be mortise series conforming to BHMA A156.13 and bored series conforming to BHMA A156.2 with factory installed electric lock modification or manufactured electro-mechanical locks conforming to BHMA A156.13 or BHMA A156.2 test standards.

2.4.4. Lock Cylinders (Mortise, Rim and Bored)

Lock cylinders shall comply with BHMA A156.5. Lock cylinder shall have not less than seven pins. Cylinders shall have key removable type cores. The cylinders shall be compatible with existing locks that were manufactured by Best Corp. and have interchangeable cores.

Construction interchangeable cores will be provided. Disassembly of knob or lockset shall not be required to remove core from lockset. All locksets, lockable exit devices, and padlocks shall accept same interchangeable cores.

2.4.5. Lock Trim

Lock trim shall be cast, forged or heavy wrought construction of commercial plain design. In addition to meeting the test requirement of BHMA A156.2 or BHMA A156.13, knobs, roses, and escutcheons shall be 0.050 inch thick, if unreinforced. If reinforced, the outer shell shall be 0.035 inch thick and the combined thickness shall be 0.070 inch except that knob shanks shall be 0.060 inches thick. Knob diameter shall be 2 1/8 to 2 1/4 inches. Lever handles shall be of a plain curved design with ends returned to no more than 1/2 inch from door face.

2.5. EXIT DEVICES AND EXIT DEVICE ACCESSORIES

Exit devices and exit device accessories shall conform to BHMA A156.3, Grade 1.

2.5.1. Exit Devices With Alarm

ANSI/BHMA A156.5, Type E0431 (with full-width horizontal actuating bar) for single doors;

Type E0431 (with actuating bar) or E0471 (with actuating bar and top and bottom bolts, both leaves active) for pairs of doors, unless otherwise specified. Provide terminals for connection to remote indicating panel. Provide outside control key.

2.5.2. Exit Devices and Auxiliary Item

Exit devices and trim shall be of wrought construction and commercial plain design with straight, beveled, or smoothly rounded sides, corners, and edges. Adjustable strikes shall be provided for rim type and vertical rod devices. Open back strikes shall be provided for pairs of doors with mortise and vertical rod devices; except open back strikes shall be used on labeled doors only where specifically provided for in the published listings. Touch bars shall be provided in lieu of conventional crossbars and arms.

2.6. KEYING

2.6.1. Locks shall be keyed in sets or subsets as scheduled. Locks shall be furnished with the manufacturer's standard construction key system.

2.6.2. Change keys for locks shall be stamped with change number and the inscription "U.S. Property - Do Not Duplicate."

2.6.3. Keys shall be supplied as follows:

Locks: 3 change keys each lock Master keyed sets: 3 keys each set Grand master keys: 3 total Key storage box: 1 total

2.6.4. The keys shall be furnished via Certified Mail to the 452 MSG/CE Locksmith 610 Meyer Drive March ARB, CA. 92518 arranged in subsets as scheduled.

2.7. DOOR CLOSING DEVICES

ANSI/BHMA A156.4, Series C02000, Grade 1, with PT 4C. Provide with brackets, arms, mounting devices, fasteners, full size covers, except at storefront mounting, pivots, cement cases, and other features necessary for the particular application. Size closers in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations, or provide multi-size closers, Sizes 1 through 6, and list sizes in the Hardware Schedule. Provide manufacturer's 10 year warranty.

2.7.1. Surface Type Closers

Surface type closers shall be Grade 1, Series C02000 Full Cover with options PT-4H, Size 1 or 2 through Size 6, and PT-4D with back check position valve. Except as otherwise specified, sizes shall conform to the manufacturer's published recommendations. Closers for out swinging exterior doors shall have parallel arms or shall be top jamb mounted.

Closers for doors close to a wall shall be of narrow projection so as not to strike the wall at the 90-degree open position. Closers on doors accessible to the physically handicapped shall have the closing force set for a push-pull of 2.27 kg (5 pounds) applied at the knob or handle for interior doors; for exterior doors, set to minimum required to relatch the door.

2.7.2. Overhead Holders ANSI/BHMA A156.8

2.7.3. Closer Holder-Release Devices ANSI/BHMA A156.15.

2.8. MISCELLANEOUS

2.8.1. Metal Threshold

ANSI/BHMA A156.21. Thresholds for exterior doors shall be extruded aluminum of the type indicated and shall provide proper clearance and an effective seal with specified weather stripping. Where required, thresholds shall be modified to receive projecting bolts or flush bolts for exit devices. Thresholds for doors accessible to the handicapped shall be beveled with slopes not exceeding 1:2 and with heights not exceeding 1/2 inch. Air leakage rate of weather stripping shall not exceed 0.5 cubic feet per minute per linear foot of crack when tested in accordance with ASTM E 283 at standard test conditions.

2.8.2. Rain Drips

.Extruded aluminum, not less than 0.07 inch thick, clear anodized. Door sill rain drips shall be 1- 1/2 inches to 1-3/4 inches high by 5/8 inch projection. Overhead rain drips shall be approximately 1-1/2 inches high by 2- 1/2 inches projection and shall extend 2 inches on either side of the door opening width

2.8.3. Aluminum Housed Type Weather seals

BHMA A156.22. Weather seals of the type indicated shall consist of extruded aluminum retainers not less than 0.07 inch wall thickness with vinyl, neoprene, silicone rubber, and polyurethane or vinyl brush inserts. Aluminum shall be clear (natural) anodized. Weather seal material shall be of an industrial/commercial grade. Seals shall remain functional through all weather and temperature conditions. Air leakage rate of weather stripping shall not exceed 0.5 cubic feet per minute per lineal foot of crack when tested in accordance with ASTM E 283 at standard test conditions.

2.8.4. Gaskets

2.8.5. General

BHMA A156.22. Gaskets shall be a compression type seal, silicon based, and self-adhesive product for use on steel door frames with wood or steel doors for 45 minute C-label. Color shall be white. Air leakage rate of weather stripping shall not exceed 0.5 cubic feet per minute per lineal foot of crack when tested in accordance with ASTM E 283 at standard test conditions.

2.8.6. Light proofing and Sound proofing Gaskets

ANSI/BHMA A156.22. Where required include adjustable doorstops at head and jambs and an automatic door bottom per set, both of extruded aluminum, clear (natural) anodized, surface applied, with vinyl fin seals between plunger and housing. Provide doorstops with solid neoprene tube, silicone rubber, or closed-cell sponge gasket. Furnish door bottoms with adjustable operating rod and silicone rubber or closed-cell sponge neoprene gasket. Doorstops mitered at corners.

2.8.7. Door Stops

Wall stops, floor stops and combination stop and holders shall conform to BHMA A156.16.

2.9. FASTENINGS

Fastenings of proper type, size, quantity, and finish shall be supplied with each article of hardware. Machine screws and expansion shields shall be used for attaching hardware to concrete or masonry. Fastenings exposed to the weather in the finished work shall be of brass, bronze, or stainless steel. Sex bolts, through bolts, or machine screws and grommet nuts, where used on reverse-bevel exterior doors equipped with half-surface or full-surface hinges, shall employ one-way screws or other approved tamperproof screws. Screws for the jamb leaf of half-mortise and full-surface hinges attached to structural steel frames shall be one-way or other approved tamperproof type.

2.10. SPECIAL TOOLS

Provide special tools, such as spanner and socket wrenches and dogging keys, required to service and adjust hardware items.

2.11. FINISHES

ANSI/BHMA A156.18. Provide finish per specific Task Order requirements.

2.12. HARDWARE FOR FIRE DOORS

Hardware for fire doors shall conform to the requirements of NFPA 80 and NFPA 101. Such hardware shall bear the label of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., and be listed in UL Bld Mat Dir or labeled and listed by another testing laboratory acceptable to the Contracting Officer.

PART 3. EXECUTION

3.1. INSTALLATION

Hardware shall be located in accordance with DHI Locations for CSD and DHI Locations for SSD, except that deadlocks shall be mounted 48 inches above finish floor. When approved, slight variations in locations or dimensions will be permitted. Application shall be in accordance with DHI ANSI/DHI A115.1G or DHI ANSI/DHI A115-W. Door control devices for exterior doors such as closers and holders, shall be attached to doors with thru bolts and nuts or hex bolts.

Install hardware in accordance with manufacturers' printed installation instructions. Fasten hardware to wood surfaces with full-threaded wood screws or sheet metal screws. Provide machine screws set in expansion shields for fastening hardware to solid concrete and masonry surfaces. Provide toggle bolts where required for fastening to hollow core construction. Alternate fastening methods may be approved by the Contracting Officer when manufacturers' documentation is submitted to verify that the fastening devices and door reinforcements are adequate to resist wind induced stresses. Electric hardware items and access control devices shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer's printed installation procedures.

3.2. Hardware for Fire Doors and Smoke-Control Door Assemblies Hardware for fire doors shall be installed in accordance with the requirements of NFPA 80. Exit devices installed on fire doors shall have a visible label bearing the marking "Fire Exit Hardware". Other hardware installed on fire doors, such as locksets, closers, and hinges shall have a visible label or stamp indicating that the hardware items have been approved by an approved testing agency for installation on fire-rated doors. Hardware for smoke- control door assemblies shall be installed in accordance with NFPA 105.

3.2.1. Door-Closing Devices

Door-closing devices shall be installed and adjusted in accordance with the templates and printed instructions supplied by the manufacturer of the devices. Insofar as practicable, doors opening to or from halls and corridors shall have the closer mounted on the room side of the door.

3.2.2. Kick Plates and Mop Plates

Kick plates shall be installed on the push side of single-acting doors and on both sides of double-acting doors. Mop plates shall be installed on the pull side of the single acting doors.

3.2.3. Auxiliary Hardware

Lever extension flush bolts shall be installed at the top and bottom of the inactive leaf of pairs of doors. The bottom bolt shall operate into a dust-proof floor strike or threshold.
