Questions from Site Visit, BLDG 1191 AT/FP : 1 Apr 2015
1 Are the current windows one piece or two piece? Are the sheetrock dividers (for lack of better term) structural or non-structural? Adequate for blast anchorage?
We believe the existing windows are two-piece units - one on each side of the 'divider' or where a wall intersects. The original drawings obtained showed this as a large single unit window with a narrow central vertical mullion, but it does not appear that it was built in this way. The actual construction of this mullion is not known.
2. The drawings seem to show the existing construction is masonry block. Can you confirm the existing construction will provide the anchorage need to meet the blast anchorage requirements?
Correct, the exterior walls, per the original drawings obtained from MAFB, are constructed of 8x8x16 reinforced masonry, with (2) #4's spaced horizontally and #5's at 24" o.c. Analysis of these conditions was undertaken by the Design Team and evaluated according to UFC 4-10-01, DOD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings. Products were researched and specified in accordance with the required standards. See specifications for further information.
3. During the site visit, it was identified that the details shown on the drawings will not work on most cases due to drywall cornerbead removal and existing wall finishes being wallpaper. Please advise if additional details or direction are going to be provided.
Specification section 017000, 3.04.E states how new finishes shall be matched to existing. Almost all work around the window will follow #1, as almost all windows and doors are surrounded by vinyl wall covering. Finshed, textured, painted, gyp board will be an acceptable patch to infill between natural lines of division. If a line of division is not available within three feet, it will be acceptable to apply an extension jamb and trim molding. Materials and finishes of jamb/molding shall match existing surrounding trim and molding (most are stained oak materials).
4. Detail 1/A2.0 shows a C window on the SW corner of the building (also see 4/A3.0). This does not appear to be the correct callout. Please advise.
Window is mislabeled in plan and elevation; should be labeled a Type 'A' to match the other adjacent windows.
5. Will it be the users responsibility to move furnishings so that the contractor can perform the work?
It will be the contractor responsibility to move furnishings.
6. Will the user remove blinds and reinstall or the contractor?
Contractor to remove and replace blinds. Contractor shall also remove any other items that are hindering window replacement (i.e. curtains, trim molding, etc.).
General: The contractor shall secure all openings while not working in them if the window or door is removed. It is their responsibility to keep openings weatherproof, no allowance for insect entrance, allow heating/cooling to still function properly, and also for general security means. Openings shall not be allowed to be unsecured overnight. No opening shall be left unsecured for more than 8 hours unless authorized by the Contracting Officer.
END QUESTIONS.
