FA462517Q0055 – Legume Inter-Seeding
Questions and Answers
19 Jun 2017
Q. On the SOW, line 2) it states:
2) Contractor shall follow Planned Seeding composition of medium red clover (6.9#), ladino clover (3.4#), and alsike clover (3.6#) at rates listed per acre- "see seed sheet for totals"
I understand that there are 122 acres outside the northeast side of the active airfield and 278 acres on the southeast side of the installation that are now planted in Fescue. We were assuming there was possibly a seeding schedule that varied for each of the sites. Can you verify or point us in the proper direction.
A. The Planned Seeding has been posted titled “Planned Seeding”
Q. Is there an estimate on tillable acreage as the 400 acres includes the trees?
A. The tillable acreage is estimated at 390-395 acres.
Q. Does the site need to be mowed/hayed?
A. YES IT DOES BUT THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE IT WILL NOT BE BID ACCORDINGLY
Q. What is the rate of fertilized/Lime?
A. AG lime takes a year to set in NO LIME OR FERTILIZER - CONTRACT IS FOR SEEDING LEGUMES ONLY
Q. Why did we change the seed from Bulk to PLS? Bulk is cheaper and same.
A. PURE LIVE SEED - NOT THE SAME - ALWAYS BEEN PLS, BULK IS INDEED CHEAPER BECAUSE THERE IS NOT 100% VIABLE SEED - BULK SEED IS FINE IF GERM RATES MULTIPLIED BY POUNDS OF MATERIAL
MEETS DESIGN
Q. Do we have a soil test for the area?
A. NO - HAS BEEN NOTHING HARVESTED ON THE LAND FOR 3 YEARS AND NOT MUCH BROOM SEDGE WHICH WOULD INDICATE LOWER pH
Q. The bid says too use recommendations of seed suppliers on use of inoculation. How ever I have had one supplier tell me that there would be no reason too use any. I had another supplier tell me they would definitely use inoculate. As there is a vast difference in cost because the difference in percent of pls. Could you please make a determination on the use of inoculate so all contractors are submitting a quote on the same products?
A. The SOW has been revised and attached.
