About this file

This is a Questions & Answers document for federal contract opportunity FY26-KC-46 Pallet Shelving (FA462126Q0014). The document addresses three key inquiries regarding the design and construction specifications for pallet shelving intended for the KC-46 aircraft program.

The Q&A clarifies that the 157-foot-1-inch shelving run must be constructed as a single continuous unit with no breaks. Regarding depth configuration, the bay depth may consist of two shelving units positioned back-to-back, or alternatively, a single shelving unit if the support structure is designed with sufficient depth. The document also defines "built-in dunnage" as forklift entry bars integrated into the shelving design, intended to replace the current practice of placing separate dunnage between wire shelves and pallets. The built-in dunnage approach is sought to provide improved strength and ease of use compared to existing methods.

KC-46 Pallet Shelving Questions & Answers FY26-KC-46 Pallet Shelving-FA462126Q0014

Q1.Will the 157'1" be in a single run?

ANSWER: Yes, there should be no breaks in the 157’ run. Just one continuous shelving unit.

Q2. Can the front to back measurement consist of 2 sections back-to-back?

ANSWER: Yes, the depth of the bay would consist of 2 shelving units back-to-back. Unless the supports were made deep enough to just use 1 shelving unit.

Q3. What is the built-in dunnage you mention? Are these fork entry bars like the attached picture?

ANSWER: Yes, they would be for forklift entry. We are currently using a wire shelf and placing dunnage between that wire shelf and the pallets. Something built in would be stronger and easier to use.
