About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document (Q&A II) for solicitation FA461325Q0007 regarding Unfired Pressure Vessel (UPV) inspections. The document contains 9 questions and government responses clarifying details about the vessels to be inspected.

The Q&A reveals that propane tanks may be elevated while air compressors are ground-level, with unimpeded access and no confined space restrictions. The vessels have only paint coating (no thermal protective coating) and no internal/external interference. The inspection requirements are specified as type VC and VE inspections, which applies to weld inspections, corrosion mapping, and external inspections for defects, cracks, deformations, and corrosion. Some specifications, such as nominal thickness and outer diameter (OD) of vessels, are referenced in previously provided inspection reports.

3) What is the nominal thickness of the vessels and OD?

That is in the report already provided.

There is no interference.

5) Are they covered in thermal protective coating (which would need to be removed)?

No, there is only paint.

6) What level of inspection is required? This is in the inspection reports there are two types, VC and VE.

7) Will weld inspections be necessary?

If so, what type of testing is preferred (ultrasonic or radiography)?

Type VC and VE inspections will be required.

8) For internal, will corrosion mapping be necessary?

Type VC and VE inspections will be required.

9)

For external inspections (defects, cracks, deformations, and corrosion), is a visual inspection sufficient or is a surface test (e.g., Magnetic Particle or Liquid Penetrant) required?
