FA460023B0001 – Capehart Chapel Questions & Answers
1. Is the Chapel Project part of a RE&C or a MATOC?
CONS Response: Neither, hence why the process is being completed through sealed bidding.
2. Will the contractor be responsible for grass cutting during the term of the contract?
CE Response: If any fencing is set-up to control an area, the contractor will be responsible for maintaining inside that area. Any un-controlled area will be maintained by CE as usual.
3. Will an office trailer be allowed on the chapel site- if yes, where?
CE Response: Yes, a trailer will be allowed; with requirement outlined in the Offutt Front End Specs. Location will need to be worked out at the time of the project with CE and Facility Managers.
4. May we have a copy of the sign-in sheet?
CONS Response: Please see Attachment 9.
5. Will the trim wood that will be installed need to be “certified”?
KHA Response: Follow the requirements listed in Spec Section 06 20 00.
6. Sheet # A-101, (sht 7 of 21) shows 3 exterior light posts that will be replaced (flag #2);
however, there are 4 exterior lights in the front and side of the Chapel. Will the 4th light be eliminated or replaced with the others?
KHA Response: Perform the work listed in the Bid Documents. Do not include costs for work not included in the Bid Documents.
CE Response: Any existing condition that does not match what is shown on the Design Documents would need to be addressed in a MOD.
7. Sheet # AD102 (sht 6 of 21), flag note 4 states, ”remove organ screen wall” and flag note #7 states, “remove trim from corners of organ screen wall, shorten,…..”. Are these notes referring to the short wall above the screen only, or is there more involved?
KHA Response: See Detail 2/A503. The upper portion of the screen wall is to be removed. Note 7 on Sheet AD201 calls out the needed work at the vertical ends of the portion of the screen wall that is to remain.
Will the exiting curtain remain in place or will it need to be removed at any point?
KHA Response: Contractor shall protect all materials to remain, including the curtain and track, during construction. Contractor shall include costs in their bid to protect those items, as they see fit.
8. Is there an actual itemized finish “schedule” that breaks out the paint for each room, (I didn't see one in the drawings)? All I could find was a floor plan with several dashed lines listing several “P#'s” but it's a bit convoluted.
KHA Response: Follow the Bid Documents, especially the paint notations on Sheet A-101 and the Paint Schedule in Spec Section 09 06 90 Color Schedule.
9. How does the existing stained glass get incorporated into the inside of the framework?
KHA Response: The intent for the stained glass is to have it placed inside the insulating glass units at the fabricator’s shop. This is stated in the “CLISG” notation on Sheet A-701 (Door and Frame Legend and Frame Types W5, W6 & W7) and several notations in Spec Section 08 81 00. The removal of the existing stained glass units is noted on Note 2 on Sheet AD101 and Note 1 on Sheet AD102. We talked with Quality Glass in Omaha about this and they said it can be done. The glass company needs to coordinate the sizes and the installation so they can get the stained glass to fit properly and be secured inside the insulating glass units.
10. Windows W5/W6 do not show details in the prints and need details on what type of framing the wall is being built out of.
KHA Response: Elevations on Sheet A-702 include references to Section 1/A504; that Section references several details of how those windows and the walls around/between them are to be constructed.
11. Will the Government provide Engineering for the scaffold placement on the north side roof elevation? If it is the responsibility of the Contractor, can the Government provide structural drawings?
CE Response: Any labor, tools or materials needed to complete the work need to be included in the proposal. Suitability of any equipment, and Engineering needed to certify it, should also be included by the contractor. Government will provide documents as they are available. Even if documents are available, we recommend verifying existing conditions.
12. Is the horizontal siding a 4'x8' sheet or lap and what texture?
KHA Response: Follow the requirements called out in Section 06 20 00.
13. What texture is soffit supposed to be/ vented or drill holes?
KHA Response: Follow the requirements called out in Section 06 20 00.
14. On the Nave wall exterior is the continuous standing seam expected to be 52' long?
KHA Response: Sheet A-702 does call out for continuous full height panels. Contractor needs to find a source for a product that can be filed-rolled to lengths needed. We have done this successfully in an Omaha project recently. The intent is to not have a bunch of short pieces cobbled together. It may be necessary to have one horizontal seam on some of the longer pieces, but want to keep that to a minimum.
15. Can we drive a Skid Loader and Boom Lift around the site?
CE Response: Equipment needed to reasonably perform the work is allowed. Any damage to existing site conditions caused by equipment, or anything else during the project, need to be repaired / replaced, to as existing condition, when the project is complete. Please see Offutt Front End Specs. The Government will occupy parts of the building during this project, and access to the building will need to be coordinated.
16. Sheet 6 keynote #3 is the soffit from the nave gable to be removed?
KHA Response: Yes, as noted on Note 3 on Sheet AD102, then replaced with new soffit material as noted on Note 1 on Sheet A-102.
17. Exterior Metal Wall Panels – our subcontractor cannot get 8” exterior wall panels, Can we substitute 10” panels for the 8” panels?
No, we cannot substitute. The size of the panel is part of the design pattern that the Architect wants. Changing the size would change the look.
