Interim Work Information Management System (IWIMS). Information management systems are used to manage, control, plan, schedule, and program work requirements in the most efficient means. The Air Force model automated systems are the IWIMS and the Automated Civil Engineer System (ACES). The capability of transmitting data to higher headquarters is mandatory. IWIMS functions include:
Work Control Forms. The automated work control systems contain embedded software/forms to control work requirements
Accounting System. Use a time accounting system to record hours and costs to work orders and account codes. The system should provide the necessary data to assist with managing and analyzing work force effectiveness. Perform periodic reviews (e.g., work analysis, productivity, workload and manpower balancing) to eliminate or minimize potential performance problems.
Collection Work Order Numbers (CWON). The Automated Civil Engineer System Operations functionality (ACES OP) will manage the collection work order process.
Background:
In terms of handling large amounts of data, civil engineers are responsible for collecting and using a variety of data and information in their decision-making processes. The current Air Force civil engineering data system is the Interim Work Information Management System (IWIMS).
This is the temporary version of the Work Information Management System (WIMS) that will be used until a replacement is fielded. Each functional part of IWIMS is being updated separately and will become an individual module in the Automated Civil Engineer System (ACES). Both systems will co-exist until ACES is complete.
The upgrade to ACES was necessary for many reasons. The most obvious reason is that IWIMS is a Disk Operating System (DOS) based program that needs to be updated to work in the current Windows based environment. Recent advancements in technology will also be used to increase the capability of the civil engineers’ automated information systems.
Monitoring. Operational visits to an equipment item or system adjustment and recording of performance data as required, including, but not limited to, soft water systems, chillers and boilers.
