1. Demolition:
a. Remove in its entirety the existing floor protective in the Military Working Dogs Kennels.
The coating to be removed is in each of the 10 Kennels, in all three sections (indoor, outdoor, and small containment area), as well as in the hallway between the kennels, as shown in the concept drawings. This protective coating extends up the walls within the kennels approximately 4’. The existing coating is approximately 6200 SF.
b. Demolish in its entirety the existing suspended 5/8” water resistant gypsum board ceiling, and the existing suspended ceiling system. All suspended lights, HVAC grills, and other suspended items are to be removed, set aside, and reinstalled after the new ceiling is put in place. The existing ceiling to be demolished is approximately 2400 SF.
c. Demolish in its entirety the existing sealant and debris from the concrete joint between the exterior of the MWD Kennel section and the adjacent sidewalk which follows the perimeter of the building. Route and clean the cracks. This caulking and sealant does not include any of joints on the interior of the concrete sidewalk. Properly dispose of all hazardous waste off base in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The existing caulking is approximately 173’ long and up to 1” wide.
d. Disconnect the ductwork to the exhaust grills in the Dog Kennel area. The intent of this is to condition the attic space with the exhausted air, as to prevent the water piping within the space from reaching freezing temperatures. The existing ductwork may be left in place.
2. Function
a. Meet with government CE and User representatives in a one-day charrette and as otherwise necessary for program and design development of space size and layout requirements. Key designers including architect, structural, mechanical, electrical, communications and data shall attend the charrette.
B. General Design & Construction Requirements:
1. Basic Items of work are as follows:
a. Provide new floor protective coating on the floors and walls inside the 10 Military Working
Dog Kennels, as well as in the hallway in the MWD Kennel Area. Within the 10 Kennels, the coating shall extend up all walls and pass the plane of the new ceiling by 4”. The approximate area of new coating is 11,000 SF.
b. The protective floor and wall coating shall be Stonhard Stoneclad® UT or an approved equal.
The material specifications shall comply with a 7 day compressive strength of 7,700 psi, tensile strength of 1000 psi, a flexural strength of 2,400 psi, a flexural modulus of elasticity of 2.6x106 psi, a hardness of 80 to 84, an impact resistance of greater than 160 in./lbs., an abrasion resistance of 0.05 gm, a flammability of class 1, a thermal coefficient of linear expansion of 1.1x10-5 in./in. °F, a water absorption allowance of less than 1%, and a cure rate of 6 hours for foot traffic and 24 Hours for normal operations (@ 77°F/25°C). The system shall be ¼ in./6 mm thick. The product must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. The Stonhard Stoneclad® UT specifications are included.
c. Properly prepare the floor and wall surface to ensure an adequate adhesion and system performance. The substrate must be dry during the application of the covering. Ensure that the preparation work is in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification.
d. Provide a new suspended ceiling on a new suspended ceiling support system. The new ceiling shall be comprised of ¼” HardieBacker® cement board , or approved equal, mechanically fastened to the support system for the interior sections of the ceiling, and HardieBacker® 500 Cement Board, or approved equal, mechanically fastened to the support system for the exterior sections.
e. The new cement board shall be coated with Tnemec Series 130 Envirofill followed by 2 coats of Tnemec Series 66 Hi-Build Epoxoline, or 2 coats of Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine Coatings MACROPOXY® Fast Cure Epoxy, or an approved equal. The surface preparation for the cement board coating shall include: the removal of all dirt and debris by scrapping or brushing, and by high pressure air, a high pressure wash of the cement board with a 4000 PSI minimum pressure washer with a turbo nozzle to remove all laitance and ensure adequate surface profile for proper coat penetration. Attached are the material specifications for the recommended coating products.
f. Place Styrofoam blocks over the existing soffit to seal it from outside air. The intent of this is to prevent unwanted outside air from reducing the temperature of the attic space to a temperature and duration of temperature long enough to cause the water pipes from bursting.
g. Reseal the concrete joint between the exterior of the MWD Kennel section and the adjacent sidewalk, at the locations where the sealant had been removed during the demolition phase.
Ensure the proper application of the sealant is performed per the specification of the sealant used. Ensure proper preparation, backer rod replacement, and sealant replacement is performed to meet the recommended joint width and depth requirements as appropriate.
h. Repair, patch, and make smooth the floor where the new floor covering is to be applied.
Repair cracks, caulked areas, etc to provide a good bond and smooth surface for new flooring.
i. Remove and replace the existing chain link fences in the dog kennel to ensure adequate coverage of all specified areas.
