About this file

This document is a salient characteristics specification for a T-6A Immersive Training Device (ITD) flight control grip assembly. The specification establishes minimum requirements for the OTTO G2-0049 or equal brand flight control grip housing and compatible switches, with all proposed "or equal" products required to meet or exceed every characteristic listed.

The grip housing must feature a Cobra-style ergonomic design consistent with MIL-DTL-25561, constructed from impact-resistant injection-molded thermoplastic polymer in matte black finish, and capable of IP68S environmental sealing when assembled. The housing and all components must operate within a temperature range of -55°C to +85°C. The required bill of materials consists of one unpopulated grip housing and four switch types: four pushbutton switches (P1-11621 or equal) with momentary SPDT action, 250,000-cycle minimum life, 2.5–4.0 lbs actuation force, and 5A resistive rating at 28VDC; one four-way toggle HAT switch (T4-0204 or equal) with 100,000-cycle minimum life per direction and 1.0 ± 0.5 lbs actuation force; and one dual-function trigger switch (U2-025 or equal) providing two tactile stages with 100,000-cycle minimum life, 2.25 ± 0.5 lbs for stage one and 6.5 ± 0.75 lbs for stage two. All components must be delivered as loose components, with the grip housing guaranteed to physically accept all switches without modification. The contractor shall transfer all available manufacturer warranties to the Government.

Revised Salient Characteristics for T-6A ITD Flight Control Grip

Brand Name OTTO G2-0049 or Equal

1.0 Purpose

This document outlines the minimum salient characteristics for flight control grip housing and a complete set of compatible switches to be used in the T-6A Immersive Training Device (ITD). To be considered technically acceptable as an “or equal” product, a proposed solution must meet or exceed all characteristics listed below.

2.0 Physical and Material Requirements (Grip Housing & Components)

• Form Factor: The grip housing must be a "Cobra style" ergonomic design consistent with the general form factor of MIL-DTL-25561.

• Construction: The grip housing must be constructed from a rugged, impact-resistant injection-molded thermoplastic polymer (e.g., Nylon).

• Finish: The grip housing must have a matte, non-reflecting black finish.

• Environmental Sealing: The grip housing and all provided switches must be capable of being assembled by the Government to meet a minimum of IP68S standards (submersible).

• Operating Temperature: The grip housing and all components provided must be rated for operation within a temperature range of at least -55°C to +85°C.

3.0 Required Bill of Materials

The offeror shall provide the following set of loose components. The Government will perform all internal wiring and final assembly.

• Unpopulated Grip Housing (1 ea.): A single "Cobra style" grip shell with all necessary cutouts and mounting points for the components listed below.

• Pushbutton Switches (4 ea.): (P1-11621 or Equal)

• Function: Momentary action, single pole, double throw (SPDT).

• Mechanical Life: Minimum 250,000 cycles.

• Actuation Force: Nominal actuation force between 2.5 and 4.0 lbs.

• Electrical Rating: Minimum 5A resistive at 28VDC.

• Four-Way Toggle "HAT" Switch (1 ea.): (T4-0204 or Equal)

• Function: Momentary toggle action for four directions (N, S, E, W) from a center-off position.

• Mechanical Life: Minimum 100,000 cycles for each direction.

• Actuation Force: Nominal actuation force of approximately 1.0 lb +/- 0.5lbs

• Dual-Function Trigger Switch (1 ea.): (U2-025 or Equal)

• Function: Must provide two distinct, tactile actuation stages (2-pole).

• Mechanical Life: Minimum 100,000 cycles.

• Actuation Force (Stage 1): Nominal actuation force of 2.25 +/- 0.5 lbs.

• Actuation Force (Stage 2): Nominal actuation force of 6.5 +/- 0.75 lbs.

4.0 Compatibility and Delivery

• Delivery: The grip housing and all required switches must be delivered together as a complete set of loose components.

• Guaranteed Fitment: The provided grip housing must be guaranteed to physically accept all provided switches without requiring any drilling, cutting, or other modification. This is the most critical requirement to ensure the Government can successfully assemble the final grip.

5.0 Warranty

The Contractor shall transfer all available manufacturer warranties for the grip housing and for each individual component to the Government.
