Questions and Answers

1. Is there room for a 7ft tall locking rack in Bldg 10541 and 1612?

Answer: Yes

2. Can we get point of entry approval for service to be brought directly into buildings 10541 and 1612, or does service have to be brought into buildings 1050 and 1674 and then connected to buildings 10541 and 1612 via the government’s single mode fiber connection?

Answer: The plan is for service to extend through B1050 and B1674 to B 10541 and B 1612 via government provided single mode fiber. However, other proposed viable solutions may be considered.

3. Are there drop ceilings in both the buildings in the areas where hardwired connections are needed and also where wireless coverage is needed?

Answer: There will be a ceiling drop in Bldg 1612 but not in Bld 10541. There will be a 12" raised system floor in Bldg 10541 but no raised floor in Bld 1612.

4. Are there conduit runs in place to run Ethernet hard lines to computer locations? If so what size in the conduit?

Answer: No, Bld 1612 runs will run through existing walls and above the ceiling. Bld 10541 will have a 12" raised system floor. Standard industry practices will be followed when running new lines.

5. Are there any more specific rules as to how cable can be run through the ceilings, walls, or telco rooms?

Answer: No, Bld 1612 runs will run through existing walls and above the ceiling. Bld 10541 will have a 12" raised system floor. Standard industry practices will be followed when running new lines.

6. Are Ethernet cables to be terminated on the TIA A scale or B scale?

Answer: TIA B

7. What connection types are on the ends of the fiber going between buildings 10541 to 1612 and 1050 to 1674?

Answer: Fiber connection types are SC

8. Is there any existing bandwidth service in buildings 10541 and 1612?

Answer: No

9. How long are the fiber runs between 10541 to 1612 and 1050 to 1674?

Answer: Distance of fiber run from Bldg 1050 to Bldg 10541 is approximately 1.75 Mi
Distance of fiber run from Bldg 1612 to Bldg 1674 is approximately 2,580.90 Ft

10. What are the building dimensions of 10541 and 1612 (ceiling height of both locations)? If the entire building does not need to be covered with WiFi services, what are the dimensions of the areas that need to be covered with WiFi?

Answer: Some coverage may be in the Hangar area of Bld 1612. Standard ceiling height is 8’ in Bldg 1612 office area—Hangar area of 1612 is approximately 60’ height. Ceiling height in Bldg 10541 is approximately 40’.

11. What are the physical addresses of buildings 1050 and 1674?

12. What are the upload and download speed requirements for each building in megabits per second? Will 40 Mbps be sufficient for upload speeds?

Answer: Per the statement of need, minimum upload is 50 MBPS and download is 500 MB

13. What are the physical addresses for Buildings 10541 (JBSA Lackland) and 1612 (Port San Antonio)?

14. Does each location have pull strings in the conduit for cabling?

Answer: No, B10541 will have a system floor—cables will be routed underneath. There’s no existing duct for new drops in Bld 1612. Bld 1612 has pull wires.

15. Does the wireless solution require configuration for private and public access?

Answer: Configuration will be required for private access with password encryption. No public access is needed.

16. Is there rack space available in the source buildings, (1050 & 1674) or would we also have to plan on putting rack equipment in those buildings?

Answer: There is not a need for the contractor to have space in Bld 1050 and 1674. The Contractor can only install equipment in the end buildings -- Bldgs. 10541 and 1612.

17. Do the 7ft racks need to be bolted into concrete floors?

Answer: Yes, racks and cabinet are required to be bolted to the floor and grounded.

18. Regarding the state of the single mode fiber runs, are all sides terminated in a fiber media box or a fiber patch panel? What is the distance from the point of fiber termination in each of the four buildings to the point where we will be housing our equipment so we know how long our fiber patch cables need to be to connect to your existing single mode fiber?

Answer: Yes, the single mode fiber runs are terminated in a closet in both Bld 1612 and Bld 10541. The contractor's housing racks will be located next to the termination cabinets. The government will provide the cabinet for Bld 10541 but the contractor is required to supply the cabinet in Bld 1612.

- Room (classroom) is located on the second floor

- The government will run fiber cable from building 1050 to building 10541 (upstairs in the communications closet)

- The contractor does not need to provide a cabinet; the government will provide the cabinet. The 29 drops will terminate in the cabinet.

- There will be a raised floor installed in the common area. The raised floor will be 12" high and all wiring will be contained underneath the raised floor in a cable tray.

Building 1612

- Building 1612 takes priority over building 10541 but both are important to have completed as soon as possible after award of contract

- Room (classroom) is located on the second floor

- Contractor is responsible for providing an enclosed, lockable rack in the communications closet, along with jumpers

- The common area will not contain a raised floor

Left side of the classroom. Just FYI, telephones will be located against the far wall. Telephone drops are in the pillars with the LAN connectors.

Contractor can re-utilize the existing conduit and telephone wire as a pull string. Contractor can use the two telephone slots for their lines.

- Public access is not needed for the wireless service but private access will. The government will provide a dedicated point of contact to work with contractor to set up private network and passwords (wifi configuration) Install needs to be completed no later than 31 Jun 19.
