FA301023R0023 Repair Repaint Convault Tanks Pre-Bid Questions and Answers

1. You have specified either 2 part epoxy or acrylic enamel as your 2 paint options. The ConVault repaint procedures recommend an acrylic latex paint for concrete. Epoxy and acrylic enamel are hard finishes and they tend to crack when placed on concrete which expands and contracts. Are you open to acrylic latex? Also, what color of paint do you want used? I'm also wondering why you want to paint the exposed aggregate tanks?

Q1 Answer: Recommend using Acrylic Latex Paint for the contact tanks. Paint color specs:

1. Sherwin Williams:

Exterior Architectural Conflex XL Smooth Elastomeric Smooth FM 8000XL

Custom Manual Match:

CCE Colorant 0Z 32 64 128 B1 – Black - 31 - 1 R2 – Maroon - 5 - - Y3 – Deep Gold 2 49 1 1

2. Or approved equal.

2. Is there water close by each site to pressure wash the tanks?

Q2 Answer: No

3. Are you requiring a breach of integrity test on the tanks that have water in the secondary? That is the only way to ensure that the tanks are sealed and that the next time it rains, new water will not get into the secondary.

Q3 Answer: No.

4. Do you have specs for bollard size and placement? It appears that you want removable bollards at two locations, is that correct?

Q4 Answer: Attached is spec for bollards. B6960 will have #6, B4705 will have #6 and B243 will have #2. They will be placed 3’ apart on front of tank and centered on right and left side for B4705 and B6960. B243 will have the two placed evenly on the side towards the traffic. B6960 Contractor will have to cut into existing concrete to place new removable bollards.

5. You have called for replacement of float gauges. Do you want the gauges replaced if only the glass lens needs replacement? Also does the "float gauge" include the tanks with Clock Gauges, or just the Kreuger Gauges?

Q5 Answer: Replace the float/level mechanisms.

6. Two tanks, B4209 and B4705 are not listed to be repainted and we were wondering why?

Q6 Answer: B4209 and B4705 are not in the scope of this project.

7. Are we to replace the specific Air Force signage on the tanks? I'm talking about the signs that have the black lettering and yellow stripes.

Q7 Answer: Replace all signage on tanks B6602 and B6642.
