3) In the drawing it lists 9 fasteners per board in the Dens Prime, but the spec lists 15 fasteners per board. Which one is correct?

A: Contractor shall use 15 fasteners per board.

4. Will there be a 6’-0” chain link fence with brown fabric screening required at the material staging area? Section 01000 page 7 paragraph 8.0 states ( not required on this project) however it mentioned two other places to be required.

A: Fencing will be required around the staging area.

5. Removal of the gravel surface of existing built-up roof can the surface be power broomed or will spudding be required which could damage the existing built up roof?

A: Spudding will be required to remove the gravel.

6. Is it the intent that all metal parapets, metal roofs at penthouses and expansion joints to be covered with six (6) coats of fluid applied coatings.

A: The intent for the project is to receive a roof system that comes with a 20 Year warranty. Depending on the system proposed and provided, the contractor shall apply the number of coats recommended by the manufacturer to achieve that warranty.

7. Is it the intent that all roof areas to be covered with six (6) coats of fluid applied coatings.

8. Will there be a third party inspection required to substantiate millage of coatings?

A: The manufacturer’s representative must indicate the millage of the coatings is sufficient to be issued a 20 Year Warranty.

9. Will you please provide details of application techniques required at expansion joints, parapet and metal roof panels.

A: Every Fluid Applied system is different. Please refer to the Manufacturer’s suggested details. Details for the system suggested in the specifications and drawings can be found at:

10. The specifications has mechanical fastening of the cover board. The fasteners for the cover board must be coated with stripping material that requires four hours drying time before the waterproof coatings is applied. How will the roof and interior of building be protected during this period before the 40” fabric and foundation fluid applied coating to the cover board.

A: Please clarify.

11. The specifications require the Contractor shall assume a replacement of 5% of existing roof substrate, flashing and accessories. Could this percentage be given to us as square footage for each item required?

A: Approximately 3000 SF of substrate and insulation, 60 LF of wall cap, 25 LF of expansion flashing, 25 LF of curb flashing.

12. Will new exhaust vents be required since existing are rusted at the base.

A: Provide new flashing at base to replace corroded areas as part of question 11.

13. The specification requires Sure Bond Primer over all bronze metal flashings can we use Acrylex 400 Primer on these metal surfaces?

A: Yes

14. The specifications require the Kymax coating to match existing color of metal. Can you provide a color number for us to use for pricing?

A: Kymax should be a Dark Bronze to match the base standard “Youth Center Bronze” on all metal flashings and penthouses. Premium Coat “Cotton” shall be used in all other areas.

15. The specifications does not indicate any cleaning or prep of metal surfaces or the neoprene surface of expansion joint covering .what is the prep required for the areas?

16. Does any of the areas of roof require expanded polystyrene chamfer strips at the existing perimeters or is the existing cants in the built up roof suffice?

A: New chamfers are not required. However, the use of ButterGrade mixed with HydroFiber where the recovery boards meet any terminations, expansion joints, and parapet walls etc. is required. All voids must be addressed.

17. There are antennas on the NW corner of the roof that are not indicated on the drawings, how do they need to be treated.

A: Contractor shall mount the antenna to a temporary structure during construction and remount once the new roof system is in place. Contractor shall consult with Facility Manager and Construction Manager before handling antenna.
