Blast Booth
5.
Is an equipment cart needed?
- Yes we want an equipment cart to facilitate the transfer of work pieces.
Q – what are the required dimensions of the cart?
The cart is required for the blasting cabinets and the portion with the work pieces should fit into the blasting cabinets.
6.
The existing booth has an external work station. Is an external work station required in the new booth?
- Yes an external work station is required.
Q – work station to have a swing down table? No
Q – blast light to be located above the interior blast wall with separate external on / off switch? yes 6b. NFPA and UFC requirements require the dust collector to be placed outside, we would need to disregard these Requirements to place the collector inside. What are the specific UFC/NFPA requirements?
Q – Ref NFPA 654 and UFC 3-410-04 6-3.5.d Dust collector outside
6-3.7 do not integrate reclaim dust collector with Mina booth dust collector
( requires two separate dust collectors)
6-3.9 fans and duct work outside Match the existing installation
7. Exhaust air from the dust collector to be returned to the building?
Answer: I'm not completely sure about this question. My thought on this question is; if it's exhaust air what purpose does it serve coming back to the building vs. being exhausted out? Is this more of an environmental/air quality concern? I have also looked at our current set up and it has a large exhaust coming from the Dust Collector being vented out through the back of the Building.
Q – UFC 3-410-04
6-3.6 non recirculating
Match the existing installation
9. CEG Are there drawings for the Building 1401 showing length, width, height of building, man door locations, louvers, work door locations - with supporting dimensions?
Answer: Drawings are available for Building 1401. Due to changes of the facilities the accuracy of the drawings are in question.
Q – Please send drawing for 1401 as an email attachment.
ANS: Please see attached drawings.
12. HEPA filters for 15,000 cfm dust collector to be located where? In building 1401 ? outside of building 1401? Inside the building Q – see above UFC and NFPA.
Match the existing installation
13. Dust has been tested and found not to be explosive, Please provide the Kst values for the dust?
- I do not know who has to test this and where to even start Q – see NFPA, there are a number of companies that can test the dust, once these values are known, then the proper explosion dust mitigation can be prescribed.
If the users are going to remove and dispose of any hazardous materials prior to the contractor removing the existing pieces of equipment, then testing of the dust by the contractor should not be required.
15. Grating to have perf plate welded to the bottom of each section to minimize trash getting in the reclaim hoppers?
- No idea what any of this means.
Q – this is to keep the larger trash from entering the reclaim system.
19. Protective coating of 3/8" thick sprayed Polyurea is acceptable on walls from floor level to 8ft high? Yes Q – this contradicts the previous Q & A # 7.
Protective coating for walls of blast room not required
21. CEG Customer shall coordinate to enable the fire suppression system after the new equipment has been installed?
Answer: The Contractor is responsible to coordinate any disabling of the fire suppression system.
Q – who is the POC on the base for Fire Suppression systems disabling and reconnecting?
Q – contractor ONLY responsible for disconnecting and reconnecting?
Q – not responsible for the actual operation and testing of the fire suppression system, its calculations, sprinkler head, flow and remote alarms / reporting?
25. MXS Both the Blast Booth and 2 Blast cabinets shall be NRTL certified?
- I do not know what this means and I’m not sure if it is a requirement.
Q – NEC section 1103 and section 90.7
OSHA & NEC 1999 section 110.3(B) Yes
After reviewing the Q&A's that were posted I came across a discrepancy between the SOO and the Q&A's
In the SOO dated 07 July 2018 under 3.A.a the customer is asking for a
"above grade, full floor pneumatic recovery system"
In the Q&A's #3 the question was raised about if the customer wants an above grade floor there will be ramps associated with this floor. Those ramps will not protrude pass the existing building roll up door.
The customer replied "We want the new blast room to fit in the existing facility 1401 without installing additional ramp"
The question is; does the customer want the media recovery floor in a pit so it is flush and level with the existing building concrete floor? Or do they want a raised floor with small steel ramps to get equipment in to the blast booth. The concrete floor in the building would need to be cut out, formed, and a pit poured to accommodate the floor sections.
The customer would like a blast room to fit in the existing building without cutting a pit into the concrete floor and without installing additional ramps into the blast room.
