Blast Booth
1.
The Title doesn’t match the SOW. … “install media blaster and paint booth, building 1401”? The SOW is for removal and installation of one walk in blast booth, and removal of one cabinet with install of two cabinets. How would contracting like us to refer to this project?
“Blast Booth and Media Blasting Cabinets”
2. MXS
What is the weight requirement for the blast booth flooring?
- 14,500 lbs. That is the weight of our heaviest piece of equipment in our fleet.
3.
There is already a substantial cement ramp to the equipment entry of the blast booth. With an above grade full flooring another ramp will be required. With a below grade full floor an additional ramp will not be required. Does the customer want a below grade full recovery floor? We want the new blast room to fit in the existing facility 1401 without installing an additional ramp.
4.
A ramp will be approximately 7ft from booth to door with about a 1ft rise. Will the customer require an above grade full floor with ramp? See question 3 above.
5. MXS
Is an equipment cart needed?
- Yes we want an equipment cart to facilitate the transfer of work pieces.
6. MXS
The existing booth has an external work station. Is an external work station required in the new booth?
- Yes an external work station is required.
7. MXS
With Plastic Media, protective booth lining is not necessary. Is it required for sound deadening?
- If protective booth lining is not necessary for plastic media then No, we do not need it.
a. MXS If it is required, then for the full height?
· See answer above.
Cabinets
1. MXS Will a 500lbs or 1000lbs weight requirement apply to the cart mounted turntable and tracks? – Yes a 500 lbs. capable cart would suffice.
2. MXS Will ergonomic cabinet features be required or desired?
· The Ergonomic feature is a requirement.
3. The SOW does not specify. Is the blast cabinet being removed and disposed of or just removed? Removed and disposed
4. MXS Is there any hazardous waste to consider? No, all hazardous waste will be removed by us prior to work being started.
5. Would you be open to considering a sweeper floor, in lieu of a pneumatic reclaim floor?
- We do not know the difference between either of those two options. What we don’t want is to have to stop work to sweep the floors in order to get the media back into the system. We want a system that automatically reclaims the media and does not require the maintainer to stop work to sweep up the media into the collector.
5b. MXS The sweeper reclaim is absolutely better than the pneumatic I sent a video for your review.
I did not understand your answer - NO, we do not want a pneumatic or NO we do not want a sweeper?
· We have not received any video for review. Please send it to johnathan.mercier@us.af.mil
6. Dust collector is to be located outside the building?
Answer: No, the current dust collector is located inside of the building and we want to keep it that way to protect it from the corrosive environment that we have here in Florida.
6b. NFPA and UFC requirements require the dust collector to be placed outside, we would need to disregard these Requirements to place the collector inside. What are the specific UFC/NFPA requirements?
7. Exhaust air from the dust collector to be returned to the building?
Answer: I'm not completely sure about this question. My thought on this question is; if it's exhaust air what purpose does it serve coming back to the building vs. being exhausted out? Is this more of an environmental/air quality concern? I have also looked at our current set up and it has a large exhaust coming from the Dust Collector being vented out through the back of the Building.
7b. UFC requires all dust collector exhaust to have HEPA filters. OK and please state the specific UFC requirement
8. CEG Are there "as built" drawing of the blast booth with one line diagrams of the electrical, fire suppression and compressed air?
Answer: No updated drawings are available.
9. CEG Are there drawings for the Building 1401 showing length, width, height of building, man door locations, louvers, work door locations - with supporting dimensions?
Answer: Drawings are available for Building 1401. Due to changes of the facilities the accuracy of the drawings are in question.
10. MXS Customer responsible to evacuate all blast media, dust and inlet and exhaust filters from the equipment prior To equipment being uninstalled?
- We will dispose of any and all hazardous materials prior to work being commenced.
11. CEG Customer shall coordinate to disable the fire suppression system before equipment is to be uninstalled?
- The Contractor is responsible to coordinate any disabling or additional work to the fire suppression system.

Removed and disposed with the entire blast booth by whomever is performing the removal and install
21. CEG Customer shall coordinate to enable the fire suppression system after the new equipment has been installed?
Answer: The Contractor is responsible to coordinate any disabling of the fire suppression system.
22. MXS Customer has a copy of the Operator and Maintenance manual for both the booth and the cabinet to accompany the equipment when it is uninstalled? We have what appears to be drawings for the booth and cabinet with some operating information available but it is not a complete manual of any sort. This applies to both the Booth and the Cabinet.
