About this file

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) containing questions and answers related to the Burn Tower Maintenance FY26 project for the Department of the Air Force Space Command. The RFI addresses two primary questions from a potential contractor regarding the structural inspection and maintenance of a burn tower and firefighting training props at Schriever Space Force Base.

The first question clarifies the scope of work, confirming that the contractor would be responsible for both structural inspection and potential repair work, with the expectation of providing a detailed report and cost estimate for any identified deficiencies. The second question addresses the burn liner inspection, with confirmation that the liner is part of the inspection process and that any deteriorated components of the flash-over trainer would be replaced as needed. The solicitation (FA255026Q0003) requires maintenance and inspection of the burn house and training props in accordance with NFPA 1403 standards and manufacturer specifications.

Burn Tower Maintenance FY26 Questions

1. We would be part of the structural inspection portion and were wanting to know what happens if we find structural issues during the inspection. How would we know in advance how much it is going to cost to repair/mitigate the issue? Would our part be only to confirm or dispute structural integrity and submit a report for the owner with no expectations of repair work performed by us? Yes, both the structural inspection and quote/estimate on how much to repair deficiencies. It would be inspection with possibility of repair work, depending on price.

2. Is the burn liner part of the inspection as well? I understand we need to remove portions of it to confirm structural integrity, but what if the liner itself is damaged? Would we be responsible for that repair or would that go under a separate contract? Yes, the burn liner is part of the inspection and does need to be removed for structural inspection. Any deteriorated components in the flash-over trainer would be replaced as needed.
