About this file
This document contains Questions and Answers (Q&A) related to a federal contract opportunity for concrete services to support the construction of a K-Span structure at the Kennedy Space Center for the Department of the Air Force Space Command.
The key details are:
- A concrete pump will be required for 4 specific concrete pours totaling approximately 400 cubic yards, while alternative distribution methods may be used for the remaining 1,000 cubic yards.
- The government requires 5-6 inch slump for the stem wall pours and 3-4 inch slump for all other pours.
- For the stem wall pours, a boom pump with at least 20 ft reach and 5-10 ft extension is required, while a standard pump with 10-15 ft hose is sufficient for the other pours.
- The pump must be on site for the full duration of each monolithic pour, which range from 60-196 cubic yards.
- The total concrete requirement is approximately 1,400 cubic yards of ASTM C150/C150M Type II concrete with 3/4 inch or smaller aggregate.

FA252124R0047 – BOM Concrete Q and A Q: “Could you confirm whether a concrete pump will be required to distribute wet concrete from the mixer trucks, or if an alternative distribution method is acceptable for the project?”
A: A concrete pump will be required for 4 pours (those estimated for the 17th and 18th of December, as well as the 30th of Jan and the 18th of Feb). The rest can use alternative methods of distribution or a pump as the contractor sees fit.
Here are the amounts of concrete that we will need for each of the estimated pour days.

Q: “Page 1 of the "Combined Synopsis Solicitation" states "to be poured by the vendor" Please specify in detail what the government intends to include in that activity. Specifically, does the government expect the vendor to do any work with the concrete after it leaves the delivery truck or pump? If so, what additional work is required.”
A: Vendor would bring concrete to site and turn on pump or auger to pour concrete. Government is entirely responsible for concrete once it leaves the truck.
Q: “The government has advised that it wants the services of a pump to be included for some of the dates. Pump charges are typically based on the equipment and time at the location and other factors. Please provide the following additional information for each date for which a pump is required
(a) Type of pump required, such as with a boom (might be needed for stem walls depending on elevation). If non-boom, how long a hose will be required. If boom, the reach and height needed.
(b) Either how long the pump will need to be at the delivery location or the desired spacing for the trucks. Either of these will allow us to determine the time component cost for the pump.”
A: For the foundation pours estimated to proceed on the 17th and 18th of December, those would not necessarily require a boom, with a 10’ – 15’ long hose substituting just fine. For the stem wall pours estimated to proceed on 30 January and 18 February, a boom with reach of at least 20’ high and 5’ – 10’ out. For all 4 of those pour days, pump would need to be there all day or until all concrete is placed (monolithic pours with estimated cubic yards for each day: 17Dec: 93CY, 18 Dec: 93CY, 30Jan: 60CY, 18Feb: 60CY).
Q: “Slump requirement for each date.”
A: For the two stem wall pours estimated to take place on 30 January and 18 February, we are requesting 5” – 6” of slump. For all other pours we are requesting 3” – 4” of slump.
