ecology_management_siteEcology management areas including Eco regions.YYCompletehttp://www.epa.gov/wed/pages/ecoregions/ndsd_eco.htm Abstract: Eco regions by state were extracted from the seamless national shapefile. Eco regions denote areas of general similarity in ecosystems and in the type, quality, and quantity of environmental resources. They are designed to serve as a spatial framework for the research, assessment, management, and monitoring of ecosystems and ecosystem components. These general purpose regions are critical for structuring and implementing ecosystem management strategies across federal agencies, state agencies, and nongovernment organizations that are responsible for different types of resources within the same geographical areas. The approach used to compile this map is based on the premise that ecological regions can be identified through the analysis of patterns of biotic and abiotic phenomena, including geology, physiography, vegetation, climate, soils, land use, wildlife, and hydrology. The relative importance of each characteristic varies from one ecological region to another. A Roman numeral hierarchical scheme has been adopted for different levels for ecological regions. Level I is the coarsest level, dividing North America into 15 ecological regions. Level II divides the continent into 50 regions (Commission for Environmental Cooperation Working Group, 1997). At Level III, the continental United States contains 105 regions whereas the conterminous United States has 85 (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 2011). Level IV Eco regions are further subdivisions of Level III Eco regions. Methods used to define the Eco regions are explained in Omernik (1995, 2004), Omernik and others (2000), and Gallant and others (1989).LandManagementZone

watershed_areaThe region or area drained by, or to, a particular body of water.YYCompleteData obtained from: http://nhd.usgs.gov/wbd.html

The Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) defines the areal extent of surface water drainage to a point, accounting for all land and surface areas. Watershed Boundaries are determined solely upon science-based hydrologic principles, not favoring any administrative boundaries or special projects, nor particular program or agency. The intent of defining Hydrologic Units (HU) for the Watershed Boundary Dataset is to establish a base-line drainage boundary framework, accounting for all land and surface areas. At a minimum, the WBD is being delineated and georeferenced to the USGS 1:24,000 scale topographic base map meeting National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). Hydrologic units are given a Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC). For example, a hydrologic region has a 2-digit HUC. A HUC describes where the unit is in the country and the level of the unit.

watershed_drainage_areaA specific subarea of a watershed.YYCompleteThis data was obtained from: http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov

The hydrologic unit data that you have downloaded from the USDA Geospatial Data Gateway is called the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). This dataset at 1:24,000 scale is a greatly expanded version of the hydrologic units created in the

mid-1970's by the U.S. Geological Survey under the sponsorship of the Water Resources Council. The WBD is a complete set of hydrologic units from new watershed and subwatesheds less than 10,000 acres to entire river systems draining large hydrologic unit regions, all attributed by a standard nomenclature.AdministrativeBoundary

http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/Wetlands-Mapper.html

This data set represents the extent, approximate location and type of wetlands and deep-water habitats in the conterminous United States. These data delineate the areal extent of wetlands and surface waters as defined by Cowardin et al. (1979). Certain wetland habitats are excluded from the National mapping program because of the limitations of aerial imagery as the primary data source used to detect wetlands. These habitats include sea grasses or submerged aquatic vegetation that are found in the intertidal and subtidal zones of estuaries and near shore coastal waters. Some deep-water reef communities (coral or tuberficid worm reefs) have also been excluded from the inventory. These habitats, because of their depth, go undetected by aerial imagery. By policy, the Service also excludes certain types of "farmed wetlands" as may be defined by the Food Security Act or that do not coincide with the Cowardin et al. definition. Contact the Service's Regional Wetland Coordinator for additional information on what types of farmed wetlands are included on wetland maps.NOTE: The wetland feature class differs from Figure 4 - Wetlands and surface water at Clear AFS in the Clear INRMP. IS the feature class or Figure 4 - Wetlands and surface water at Clear AFS correct?WetlandArea
wetland_buffer_areaAreas surrounding certain types of wetlands where any development is restricted.
