About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Paint Barn project at Minot Air Force Base, involving the procurement of an industrial semi-down draft spray paint booth. The Q&A addresses technical specifications and installation details, including booth design preferences, utility requirements, and operational parameters. Key technical points include a desired heater temperature range of 80-130 degrees, low humidity requirements, and flexibility in booth design configurations, with the current setup being an "Option 2" semi-downdraft style.
Installation and logistical considerations were extensively discussed, with Base Civil Engineering (CE) responsible for utility routing, electrical connections, gas supply, and facility modifications. The government will handle hazardous material disposal and potentially assist with equipment dismantlement. The project timeline is flexible, with a preference for winter installation, and vendors were advised of potential extended lead times for equipment. The project is associated with the Department of the Air Force Global Strike Command, and the solicitation number is F3CTMG5120AW01, indicating a formal procurement process for replacing an existing paint booth.

Paint Barn Questions and Answers (last updated 08/11/25)
Q: Nut and bolt assembly: Is this required or will the gov’t consider self-tapping?
A: Prefer nut/bolt. If tapped bolt hole elongates, hard to replace for seals Q: Can you please send all dimensions of the space for the paint booth, including total height availability in the area. Are there any obstructions to be aware of? Are the booth dimensions in section 2.0 are the same as the booth they currently have, or are the requested dimensions different from what they already have?
A: All dimensions are current build Q: What utilities are available for the current paint booth that will need to be tapped into for the new booth. Can you provide total capacity at each electrical disconnect, compressed air, and natural gas?
A: This would have to come from Base CE Q: Will the area need to be abated of hexavalent chromium prior to installation of the new booth? Would you like the contractor to take care of this prior to installation?
A: I don’t believe so, but they can test for certainty Q: Are fire suppression lines to be installed inside the booth or above the booth?
A: Outside of booth Q: What is the desired target temperature (or range) for the heater to provide based on application of coatings?
A: 80-130 degrees Q: Are there any humidity control requirements to be aware of?
A: As low as possible Q: Prior to the government disposing of the old booth, should the vendor make plans to palletize or strap together the old equipment, or will the government provide roll-offs for the disposal of old equipment and filters?
A: Filters will be removed by our shop. Rolloff can be scheduled Q: Will the government dispose of any potential hazmat through their normal waste stream?
A: Yes Q: Is this a funded project, and do you anticipate installation in the winter months?
A: Winter would be best time if possible Q: Is the government amenable to a longer POP? Depending on the time of award, lead times on AMUs and supporting equipment can be longer than 120 days A: Yes Q: The specifications call for an Industrial Semi-Down Draft spray paint booth. Are you referring to a design with makeup air coming into the booth through a single ceiling filtered plenum in the front ceiling and air discharged through a filtered exhaust plenum at the rear of the booth? This design is often called either a Semi-Downdraft booth or a Modified Downdraft booth. Or are you referring to a design with makeup air coming in across the entire booth ceiling and air discharged through filtered exhaust plenums on each sidewall of the booth, at floor level? This design is often called either a Semi-Downdraft booth or a Side-Downdraft booth.
A: Right now we have “Option 2”. We are not picky as long as it meet the CFM requirement.
Q: Will the government provide for the dismantling and removal of the existing spray paint booth?
A: No, we (the section) may assist with dismantlement, if Mfg requires assistance Q: Will the government provide the routing of utilities (natural gas and electrical supply) to the connection points on the new spray paint booth and the air makeup unit mounted atop the booth?
A: This should have been addressed in the SOW or CE 332. Base CE would have to route/connect any wiring/gas/fire suppression TO the facility. Mfg provides from booth TO the facility Q: Will the government provide for the cutting and weather-tight resealing of the required building roof penetrations for booth exhaust stack(s) and air makeup intake air ductwork? Roof Flashings to be provided with the spray booth for integration into the building roof by your roofing contractor.
A: Modifications to the facility should be done by Base CE.
