About this file
This document is a solicitation for Temporary Relief Cook Staffing Services issued by the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) for the Veterans Home of California in Yountville. The contract seeks to provide temporary/relief cook staffing on an as-needed basis for two kitchens: the new Virginia Mae Days Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) kitchen and the existing Domiciliary Main Kitchen. The staffing will be used to fill temporary vacancies, substitute for full-time employees on extended leave, and provide services when appropriate staffing levels cannot be maintained with civil service staff. The contract will require cooks who meet specific qualifications, including experience preparing meals for large groups, and will primarily cover Shift 1 (5:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) and Shift 2 (9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.), with potential for services outside these primary shifts.
The solicitation includes detailed requirements for cook qualifications, with two classification levels: Cook 1 (minimum one year of experience) and Cook 2 (minimum three years of experience). Contractors must provide cooks who can perform various food preparation and service duties, maintain high food quality standards, follow dietary specifications, and comply with health and safety regulations. The contract will require comprehensive documentation, including resumes, licenses, certifications, and health clearances. While specific hourly rates are not disclosed in the visible document, the solicitation indicates estimated monthly hours for different shift types, suggesting a potential 36-month contract term. Additional requirements include providing staff within 70 miles of the facility, maintaining 24/7 contact availability, and adhering to strict dress code and identification badge policies.
