About this file

This document is Exhibit G - Milestones for a competitive solicitation by ArtsWA for casting two bronze statues of Nisqually leader Billy Frank, Jr. The project involves creating statues for National Statuary Hall in Washington DC and the Capitol Campus in Olympia, Washington, with a projected budget of $250,000. The foundry will complete the statues using two potential processes: traditional rubber molds or digital scanning with 3D printed patterns. Each 9-foot tall statue will be cast in silicon bronze with internal stainless-steel armatures. The fabrication process includes multiple detailed stages: replication, wax patterns, metal casting, metal fabrication, and patina/color application, with ArtsWA conducting six to eleven site visits and requiring artist consultation throughout the project.

The contract includes specific technical requirements for each fabrication stage, with precise specifications for materials, wall thickness, welding, and finish. Payment is structured in stages, totaling 100% upon completion of each phase, with ArtsWA holding ultimate approval authority. The foundry must meet stringent quality standards, including using specific bronze alloys (CDA 873 or CDA 876), stainless steel mounting hardware, and achieving precise surface treatments. ArtsWA will independently review and must explicitly approve each project phase before progression, with the artist available for limited consultation through ArtsWA representatives.

Replication process

Silicone rubber mold, with rigid support (e.g. reinforced plaster or fiberglass jacket)

Silicone Rubber Mold – includes labor, materials, travel expenses if necessary

Requirements:

1) Rubber must have a lifespan of no less than 5 years.

2) Rigid supports must be reinforced with fiber, hemp, or wire.

3) Registration keys and locks must be incorporated into the mold and rigid supports to ensure proper seating.

To be considered 100% complete, all rubber and rigid support sections need to be cured, separated, and removed from the clay statue. A tally of individual mold sections and number of individual patterns necessary to complete one statue must be provided to ArtsWA.

10%

Wax Patterns
Patterns created from silicone rubber molds using molten waxes poured or cast into silicon rubber molds.

Requirements:

1) Average pattern wall thickness must not be less than 1/8” thick, or greater than ¼” thick.

To be considered 100% complete, all patterns need to be ready to proceed to the slurry room, meaning they need to be sprued, gated, and core-pinned (if necessary). ArtsWA will review and accept patterns based on the quality of their replication and readiness for the next stage.

Total – 30%

3d Digital Scan 3D digital scan by Form 3D Foundry, provided by ArtsWA or a 3D digital scan made by the foundry or their preferred vendor.

Requirements:

· Quality and size of the scan must be of a quality that accurately and precisely captures the surface detail, scale, design, and depth of surface texture of the original clay statue without distortion.

· Scan must be in a digital format which allows for 3D printing of patterns usable in a lost wax casting process.

· Scale of statue, including compensation for contraction during casting process, must not result in a completed cast metal statue greater than 9 feet tall, and a footprint wider than 41” and deeper than 41”.

To be considered 100% complete, a full resolution copy of the scan and a reduced resolution copy (80mb) must be provided to ArtsWA for review. Copies of the digital scan are unnecessary if using the scan made by Form 3D Foundry provided by ArtsWA.

0%
